Small positive steps for James Tedesco
James Tedesco could not hide the smile from his face even if he wanted to at Concord Oval today.
The sight of Tedesco doing some light running with the NRL squad was one of the main highlights of the first day of training for 2013.
A player with enormous talent and speed, Tedesco missed the entire 2012 season after an innocent step off his left knee saw him suffer an ACL injury just 30 minutes into his NRL debut in round one.
It was not only a major loss to the team but also a cruel blow to the gifted youngster who had impressed many with his ability at full-back leading into the 2012 season.
Tedesco returned for 2013 pre-season training with the NRL squad in the first week of November and was quick to impress the coaching staff until suffering a slight setback to the left knee. It resulted in him undergoing minor surgery in December.
“The surgery went well and the knee felt good today. I just did some light running but it was great to be back out there with the boys again,’’ Tedesco said.
Wests Tigers NRL Rehabilitation Manager Andrew Leeds said the session Tedesco took part in was just another step in getting him back playing.
“The session the boys did today was more of a control running session under Hayden Knowles with a few attacking skills thrown in,’’ Leeds said.
“With James, it is now just a matter of keeping an eye on him over the next couple of weeks to see how he pulls through and then hopefully it is all systems go from there.
“He certainly deserves the opportunity to play again as he has worked tremendously hard on his rehab and was one of our best trainers up until that last setback.”
