Funny how when the magpies paid Balmains debts and became majority share to the wests tigers that the magpies kept the club together as one and continued the “Wests Tigers” as we are now the wests tigers. As soon as Leo has the opportunity he was Balmain out. Dog act and maybe this is why we aren’t successful as one side wants to remain as how they were in the 80s. If we were unified maybe we would be much more successful?

Could be wrong but I believe that the licence to participate in the NRL was issued to Wests Tigers and can’t be changed, Balmain and Wests as stand alone entities no longer exist in NRL so this guy is dreaming

So did I bro ! I dont even remember what it was like being a Balmain fan , other than generic nostalgia ie. crying when we lost 89 at my family friends place on a farm somewhere .
I will tell you this , when SL was on , I was preying we would join or merge because I knew Balmain was a shit show of a club . As much as I loved them .
When we joined with wests I thought “sweet we get to run the club , because they are way worse than us “ …. 25 years of life in between ….. and god I wished we merged with norths or even the eels or someone who would have taken us over , and built a functioning club .

I gather the argument is the licenses are up for renewal soon? I only caught part of the reasoning.
Dont start on the who gave what, and who bailed who neither club exists independently without the financial backing of the NRL - they both would have been washed up years ago.
The question needs to be asked about why the current board of the Wests Tigers has not appointed independent directors as was recommended to lead the Wests Tigers into the future.

It's a smart business decision too. Take away the Tigers name and stop playing at Leichhardt and you risk alienating a decent chunk of our fan base.

How can they “ take away” the name though ?
If there's no Balmain involvement there's possibly a legal question on who owns the name. It could get ugly.

They can't. The NRL own the trademarks of every club. This bloke is going to kill off his own club.
Keep in mind this is just Garry Leo sprouting off. There's no real indication there's even majority support at Balmain Football Club level. I'm not really involved at that level anymore. As I said above I'd imagine this is more noise to get some traction on existing grievances but we'll see I suppose.
