SMH Article 'We’ve lost faith in them’: Balmain consider shock exit from Wests Tigers merger

But who decides what is the bar relating to skills experience so called academic qualifications sporting qualifications etc.

It is endless.

And it won't please everyone.

Besides, in public companies shareholders with 10% plus control have automatic qualification unless its changed.

Anyway wouldn't be surprised if Gilbert isn't shuffled around for independent candidaticy......so possible delays may be for these types of reasons.
Independent candidates should have no formal affiliation with HBG, Magpies or Balmain (or major financial contributor to WT) or be anything greater than a member of the WT in a perfect world to hold that independency. That's just my opinion to have the best run board as possible free of any corporate or personal ties.

I don't feel it's disrespectful at all. It's not like he has to front up to a Centrelink office, and I'm sure the interview will be carried out in a dignified manner by professionals.
But as I said in another post...I definitely don't feel he should get the position as he was involved in a corrupt act when he was Premier of NSW, therefore Imo he can't be trusted to hold any position that carries great responsibility.
He should never have been on our board at all.
That’s a bit harsh mate? Name a politician who hasn’t bent the rules? Name a nrl player who hasn’t been penalised over a 10 year career? Barry was in the job here for almost 12months, until the government needed his help in India he responded and became high commissioner to India.
We need him now.
I realise he has 2 things going against him, on the wrong side of politics and admitted to being a Balmain fan, but the club desperately needs his experience, skill and connections.

And those 20 debenture holders have a stranglehold over the club in perpetuity? They're free to do whatever they want, with no accountability to anyone, ever? Because of some agreement made probably decades ago in an extremely different economic environment?
Wow. That's even worse than I thought! I thought there might be some term period or the ability for the debenture holders to vote them out.

I suppose one trigger can be for the NRL to revoke the license if they don't set up proper, independent governance. They certainly can cite plenty of examples of why...

It is for me and apparently others, a real passion killer.
Really? He's nothing. The problem with our club is structural and we will remain on the bottom of the table unless fixed.... and currently it looks like the people who can and committed to do so, may like power more.

That is a far greater passion killer than one numpty blabbing stupid things

Disagree,

Emails have been leaked and Balmain has weaponised the review. Check peoples earlier comments.

If you want to discuss the boards performance there are other threads.

This thread wouldn't exist without the disharmony.

Who is to say the HBG share holders are all pulling in the same direction in regard to the review recommendations. They wasted no time in ousting Tony A - who supported the review - and now review actions appear to have stalled, and Barry O'Farrell having to re apply for the position.
I won't apologize for having concerns we are not in good hands under the leadership of Julie Romero and Denny Burgess after years of failure, despite Gary Leo's unhelpful position being publicised.

I don't think that they have weaponised the review. I think they are trying to get the review recommendations implemented.

I Think what was said was incredibly stupid, distracted from and made achieving that goal much more difficult.

Well much has happened.

Remember the review was commissioned by the club and is non binding.

But look,

Lee gone,

Board gone,

Richardson appointed.

Governance changes.

That' a fair bit, probably exceeded the original expectations already don't you think?
Richie won’t be there long if the ‘board’ games recommence

How do we know they won't try it again?

'United we stand' ditto ditto ditto - we are on the verge of a exciting new period for this club so for a Balmain director to feed this story to the press is unforgivable. Whatever the issues keep them in house like every other NRL club. Leo is suffering from relevance depravation but doing this now before seasons end is a targeted act of bastardry.
