Smith rates Farah bigger test than Ennis

Queensland hooker Cameron Smith has the lit the fuse on a potentially fiery encounter with Michael Ennis by declaring Robbie Farah the Blues' best No.9 option for the State of Origin opener.

But the Australian Test rake doesn't think Blues selectors will go for the more creative Farah and he expects to pack down opposite the gritty Ennis for the May 25 Origin clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Smith was asked on Tuesday who he'd least like to face of Blues hooking contenders Ennis, Farah or Dean Young.

"I think Robbie Farah, given that he's got a lot of tricks to his arsenal," said Smith on Sky Sport's radio's Big Sports Breakfast.

"He shows the ball a lot, he's got a chip kick, he's got a grubber, he's got a good long kicking game and it can be hard to pick what he's going to do when he's got the ball in his hands.

"On the other hand, you know Mickey Ennis is going to be in your face the whole time and he's going to make the game pretty tough for you when he's in defence.

"He's (Ennis) going to try and frustrate the ball players and get in the face of Locky (Darren Lockyer) when he's kicking and Johnathan Thurston when he's kicking. He's sort of at you all game.

"In different ways you don't really want to play against either of those two guys, but I've sort of got the feeling they will go with Mick Ennis for this first match given that he played in three last year and that he's been in pretty good form for the Bulldogs as well."

Smith is coming off a great weekend when he starred for Australia in their 20-10 victory over New Zealand on Friday night before producing the match-sealing play in Melbourne's thrilling 29-22 NRL victory over Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The Storm game was in the balance until the final minute when Melbourne winger Anthony Quinn won a mad scramble for a Smith grubber kick.

I hope they dont pick robbie, we need him to be playing for us, all the troops on the ground the better, we nned to make up the losses we have been having whilst our players have been out injured.

I hope they pick Robbie and he really focuses on his game. I think all he needs is a little bit of improvement and he can match Smith.

I hope they pick Robbie, allow him to play something like his natural game and the whole of NSW sits up and takes notice at what our side can do, even though we don't have stars across the park like the queenslanders, with a bit of creativity out of dummy half.

Agree, i think also you gain alot more from blokes playing origin, even know you lose them for a couple of games.
If we want to win we need to pick talented footballers and play football, "Built for origin" players who are tough, but lack genuine skill

No argument with Smith on this one. Farah asks a lot more questions of an opposition's defence than Ennis or Young. If NSW are serious about beating Queensland, Farah should be picked. If they think the so-called aggression (which has been found to be severely wanting) that Ennis provides, they're kidding themselves. Young would be a better option over Ennis as at least he does have some mongrel in him, if not the same skill levels.

That's interesting why wasn't smith asked about Hinchcliffe who according to some so called experts had a big game for country in fact had I not watched the game, I would have wondered who the city hooker was given there wasn't too much said about Farah that I heard or read. Smith is a very good player, Farah should take his comments as a compliment (I am sure he would).

Smith is a smart dude…
He's the best hooker in the game and is leading most tackles made I believe.
Farah is 2nd and defo my personal favorite.
Isaac Luke 3rd, he is such a beast.... all the others are pretty average in my eyes.

We're gonna lose anyway.
If Ennis gets picked just notches up more games in the 'Losses' Column for him and maybe then Ricky will change to Farah.
Even then i dont rate our chances of winning.

Interesting, don't know how much influence this would have, if any at all, but interesting.

As Willow says, Farah asks a lot more of opposition defence, hopefully that is taken into some consideration, cause the last 5 years trying to base their decision making purely on defence, has not worked.

Pearce seemed to not only work well with Farah, but looked more dangerous with the service he was getting.

Can I ask a silly question?? Why are all the Queenslanders so far pushing for Farah to be picked in Origin ??? Firstly Meninga and then Smith . Does anyone find that strange ??

No they probably want a competitive opposition for a change they might get bored winning all the time….

The only time I have a genuine interest in Origin is when players from my club are playing. Otherwise I don't really care.

Same here. I feel the same way about test football. I tend to support NZ over us.

Me too I can't help but support Marshall

Really?….I hate watching him play for the Kiwis because in those games he is the enemy and I want him taken out lol.

Always hope our players have big games when they play against our sides but don't want them to win or get injured . To those who have these traiterous thoughts Does the same go when Gareth Ellis plays for England ??
