I am in as Madge's extended bench

Here is a great site form which to get info about all things EPL fantasy:

https://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Football/Premier+League/Fantasy+Football

And here's some points that might help us all make better picking choices:

1. DECIDE WHEN TO USE YOUR 1ST WILDCARD

Consider a strategy that you want to use as this will impact on your team selection. One strategy is to save your chips until the end of the season for the double and blank gameweeks, but to use your 1st wildcard in the first half of the season. This is best used over international breaks which are before gameweek’s 5, 9 & 13. Find a strategy that suits you.

2. VIEW FIXTURES & CREATE LONG-LIST

Download the FPL planning spreadsheet and look at fixtures up until your wildcard. Which teams look to have clean sheet or goal potential? Start to write a long-list of teams you might want to consider. E.g. LIV/BOU forwards.

3. RESEARCH

Who’s fit? Who’s likely to start gameweek 1? Who’s on set-pieces? How teams have set up and played in pre-season? Bear in mind that many players have had an increased holiday following the African Cup of Nations and Copa America so may not be fully fit by gameweek 1!

4. VIEW THE PLAYERS ON FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Are there any players that stand out as bargains or are listed out of position? E.g. Strikers listed as midfielders. Add these to your long-list for potential picks.

5. PICK YOUR FORMATION

Think there will be a lot of goals and there is value in attack? Pick an offensive formation like 3-4-3. Do you think there is more value in defence and there’s more likelihood of clean sheets? If so, pick a defensive formation.

6. CHOOSE YOUR GOALKEEPER STRATEGY

The 2 main strategies are to either:
a) Pick a premium (£5.5m+) GK & a bench (£4m) GK and always play the premium GK
b) Pick 2 cheaper GKs (£4.5m-£5m) and rotate between them to whoever has the easier game.
Both are good options!

7. PICK YOUR BENCH

You want to maximise the value in your starting 11 and minimise the value on your bench. I argue that you should have no more than £18m on your bench. Your research should have highlighted the players who are £4m or £4.5m and regularly play for their teams.

8. CHOOSE YOUR PREMIUM PLAYERS

Now it’s time to splash the cash. Pick 2 or 3 highly priced players who you think can score points against ANYONE. These will be the mainstays of your team and should provide excellent captaincy opportunities with the chance to score big!

9. FILL UP YOUR SQUAD

Choose attacking players with good fixtures. E.g. Costa, Neves and Cairney are arguably all better FPL picks than Kante/Dembele. Although Kante is a world class player, he is a CDM who rarely scores goals and doesn’t take set-pieces. Keep this in mind!

10. PLAN YOUR TRANSFERS

This is a what the best FPL managers do. You know the future fixtures so plan to have a strong squad! Look at ahead and think about which players you might want to get rid of and which players you might want to bring in. Plan until your first wildcard.

11. TINKER ALL DAY, EVERY DAY

There’s no doubt that you’re probably not 100% happy with your team, so make some changes! This is where experimenting with different players and combinations can become addictive but that’s why we love the game! You have until 9th August @ 1900 GMT!

A final note on Tiger_1's notes , still many players and changes are likely in EPL , some real bargains still possible ....especially with the newly promoted sides

@happy_tiger

Thanks and spot on happy_tiger - in fact, it's only 1 July and the comp only starts 10 August.

But reality is the Fantasy site is now open, and lots of ppl like to tinker etc right up till Game 1 - BUT as a warning, there are still clubs which will sell players, buy new players etc - so keep up to date to best pick your team at your leisure.

I'm keeping an eye on Milivojevic as he is first in line to take Penalties, Corners and Free kicks for Crystal palace.

@Harvey

Thanks champion Harvey - we'll be coming to join your FUN too.

We've joined as Laroche Lions (tiger_one) and Bon Vivant (Mrs tiger_one).

Had a quick look around the draft, and I am not sure whether you are able to set your order in case you are unavailable.

If anyone else works it out, share the knowledge

@Harvey

Hey champion Harvey - we haven't done our setting up yet but here is what I think will do the trick:

1 Go into Fantasy Darft and click into the Draft Room.
2 Then you'll get some tabs Search, View & Sort under which are more tabs for All PLayers and Watchlist.
3 If say you want to select players by position, select (say) goalkeepers under View and all available players will pop up (this list is by value in the game, top or most expensive players at the top and going down in value as the list moves down etc.
4. If you want a player, click on Watch for that player and that player is then moved for you (in order) into the watchlist area.
5. Repeat all player positions to suit your want, they all get eventually into a watchlist - where you can the move them into an order of your preference - so that if you're not there for the draft, your selec]lected order of watchlist applies and available players are allocated to you etc.
6. And even after the Draft happens, if you're still not happy with what you get, you're then able to go and transfer the payer out that you might not really like and transfer in someone else from the left over players - and there's going to be lots of choices.
7. As the gameweeks come and go, we can swap any non-performing player out as we wish, and bring in some other available player as replacement. (this is a fun bit as it needs guesswork, luck and being on top of when , say, injured good players might come available etc.

Aahh! the joys of fantasy !!

(hope all that hasn't confused you too much - - and when you get your best team all on the go, remember to be kind to the missus and me! hahaha)

The quote is "even the sun shines on a dogs bum twice a day "

Its like posting with an 8 year old who hasn't seen the inside of a school yard

5 weeks till the new EPL season starts.

And lots of new faces still to be signed as clubs try and strengthen their squads,

And the Fantasy comp??
I've only changed players a few times so far - looks like even more to come as the tinkering continues! hahaha
