Middlesbrough's promotion hopes were dealt a painful blow as Conor Coady gave Charlton a surprise 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro were hoping to keep up the pressure on Championship leaders Coventry with victory but instead dropped precious points in their pursuit of a place in the Premier League.

Coady's second-half winner leaves Boro eight points behind the Sky Blues, and more importantly just one ahead of a charging Millwall in third place.

It is nine years since Boro were in the top flight and they now face a massive last nine games in a tussle for a priceless top-two finish.

The CommBank Matildas are going to the FIFA Women's World Cup Brasil 2027
🏆

Australia's Matildas beat North Korea 2-0 in the quarter-finals at Perth Rectangular Stadium, with Kennedy scoring first in the opening half—her fifth goal in four games, leading the golden boot race—and Kerr adding a powerful strike soon after halftime.

Despite missing Steph Catley and Hayley Raso, coach Joe Montemurro's shift of Kennedy to midfield paid off handsomely, while Emily van Egmond earned her 169th cap, matching a national record.

The win sends them into the semis against Japan or Philippines, with a 2027 Women's World Cup berth on the line.

More importantly, who have we got ?
I’m thinking a 4-5 nil score line.

Wellington climb out of bottom spot with comfortable win over Perth Glory

Wellington Phoenix have broken their seven-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Perth Glory at HNRY Stadium.

The first half passed without a single shot on target, but Wellington broke the deadlock when Corban Piper nodded home yet another set-piece for the Phoenix. Former Nix midfielder Nicholas Pennington’s own goal sealed a much-needed victory for the hosts.

The long-awaited win for Wellington lifts them off the bottom of the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder and into ninth, two points off the top six. Perth have slipped down to 11th, just one point above Western Sydney.

Late drama ensured that the points were shared as the Mariners drew 1-1 with Adelaide United in a clash of styles at Central Coast Stadium.

The hosts were completely pinned back in the first half but Sabit Ngor came off the bench and immediately gave his side the lead against the run of play. Ethan Alagic popped up in the 88th minute to salvage a deserved point for the largely dominant visitors.

The draw leaves both sides as they were in the Isuzu UTE A-League table. Central Coast go two points ahead of seventh-placed Macarthur, and Adelaide are just one point behind Sydney FC in third.

Auckland beat Newcastle in thrilling top of the table clash

Auckland FC have closed the gap at the top of the Isuzu UTE A-League to just one point as they beat Newcastle 2-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Jesse Randall and Sam Cosgrove caused the league leaders all sorts of problems and linked up to give the visitors an early lead. Clayton Taylor pulled one back but Cosgrove struck again to deal the Jets their first defeat since Boxing Day.

The win closes the gap at the top to just one point. Newcastle and Auckland will face the same five teams in their remaining games as the race for the premiership heats up.
