Big-spending Tottenham made a disappointing start to the new Premier League season as they were outplayed by an impressive and match-ready Brentford 0-3 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Spurs players appeared like a ‘𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦’ where they "never won enough duels."

(It is Matchweek 1 and as they say, "it's how you finish, not how you start ...)

Sorry I didn't look at this result too closely, I was too busy basking in Tigers glory.

But it's always good to remember that whenever Tigers disappoint me, Spurs are there just waiting to disappoint me even further.

Newcastle and Liverpool finish 2 all in a match that went down to the wire.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored a dramatic stoppage-time penalty as Liverpool denied Newcastle an opening game victory at St James' Park.

Goals from Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock seemed to have given Matthias Jaissle a winning start to life as Newcastle manager, with Cody Gakpo having briefly levelled for the visitors in the second half.

However, with seconds left Victor Munoz was brought down inside the box by Lewis Hall and Szoboszlai stepped up to hammer the penalty into the roof of the net.

It was perhaps fitting that the game ended in drama. Fans of both sides had come together before it started to pay tribute to Kevin Keegan, who died last month at the age of 75.

A large tifo showing images of Keegan along with the words "King Kev" was visible in one stand, while in the centre circle there was a moving mosaic of shirts left outside the stadium following the news of his death.

After a minute's applause before kick-off it was Newcastle who made the dream start. Elanga scored his first goal for the club when he was sent away by William Osula and the forward sent a neat finish into the far corner.

Liverpool equalised after the break when Gakpo showed great accuracy to place a strike from distance beyond Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.

However, the Reds were level for just two minutes as substitute Willock restored Newcastle's lead, finding the bottom corner with a clinical strike.

That looked like being the winner until Hall fouled Munoz and Szoboszlai stayed calm to fire home from the spot with almost the last kick of the game.

Manchester City get things done, 4-1 over Crystal Place

Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki both scored twice as Manchester City made it two Premier League wins out of two under Enzo Maresca - and left Crystal Palace without a point after back-to-back defeats.

Haaland, last season's leading scorer with 27 league goals, opened his account for the season to set City on their way with a guided header after being picked out by Antoine Semenyo in the 17th minute.

In an entertaining game, Cherki doubled the lead with a lovely 54th-minute finish after dancing past a couple of challenges, before Palace pulled one back two minutes later when Gianluigi Donnarumma became the first City keeper to score a Premier League own goal since Costel Pantilimon in December 2013.

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest finish all tied up at 2 all.

Victor Munoz marked his full debut with a goal to rescue a Premier League point for Liverpool at home to Nottingham Forest.

The Spain winger lashed homed from Florian Wirtz's pass to level for Andoni Iraola's side with eight minutes remaining after Morgan Gibbs-White's penalty had put the visitors on course for three points.

Dan Ndoye had given Forest the lead midway through the first half, slotting home from Gibbs-White's pass after a simple long ball over the top took out the Liverpool defence.

Liverpool drew level on the hour mark when Alexander Isak tapped into an empty net from Cody Gakpo's pinpoint low cross.

But with Liverpool hoping to push on to find a winner, goalkeeper Alisson was adjudged to have brought down Neco Williams after a quick throw-in from Forest's new record signing Liam Delap.

The home side were furious with the decision but it was upheld and Gibbs-White sent Alisson the wrong way from the spot.

But, as they did at Newcastle last weekend, Liverpool battled back and Munoz thumped the ball home off the crossbar to equalise.

Neither side could find a winner, though, leaving both Iraola and Oliver Glasner without a win since taking over their respective sides in the summer.
