Souths after Tim Moltzen...

I know he's not killing it atm when he plays fullback but i can see him being a gun fullback especially in attack if he can improve defending kicks and his kick returns he'll be an ideal replacement for Wade.

I think Moltzen has no place as a fullback in the current team, especially with Mckinnon and Brown around. He just seems a bit too timid to put his body on the line and at this stage he _will_ cost us games if put there.

However in attack he is brilliant at fullback, anyone who disagrees should go back and watch our round one match against the eagles from a couple years back. He tore up through the middle of the ruck, his combo with marshall single handedly turned the game.

Givn the talent we have in the halves i can definitley see the logic in grooming him as a fullback for the future.

P.s. all those death riding Moltzen atm should cast their minds back to his first dozen or so games in first grade. He was absolutely woeful and didn't look up to the grade, not even for a minute. However by the time he got injured last year he was considered one of our most dangerous players by many on this forum. Give the kid some time, come the business end of the season it will be interesting to see if perceptions have changed.

Mackinnons hammys are like taught rubber bands….TM is good utility value.

We can't afford to lose one of the best long term options in the club at fullback, centre or in the halves.

I agree….however a red n green #7 jersey may be more tempting than a #14 Black White n Orange number

Can't imagine Souths letting Sandow go unless they had a better option in mind . Don't necessarily think that Moltzen would be a better option at this stage as they can't see how much he will fully recover at this stage from his knee injury . Smart money will be on someone else in my opinion .

Tim is a very good player when at his best.

However given our current roster I think there is a good arguement that he is superflous to the team's requirements and I would not be opposed to an early release to Souths if that is what he wants.

He wont leave he lives with benji and tanila and his close with the team and lets forget about it cause he will sign long term deal so will blake next year and souths will sign a different 7 im 100% sure tim would not want to leave im sure 😀

They'll have to throw a bucketload at him to get him….he knows when hes on a good wicket.

Exactly. He also seems pretty loyal IMO and despite his indifferent form this season, he's highly regarded at the Tigers and will gradually improve as the season goes on and he gets full confidence back in the knee.

That is not true, his first grade debut at centre was ok,but the next week he played 5/8th against the cowboys and starred,so he he wasn't woeful when he started.
He only got woeful when moved to fullback, and that was pre injury, there are 2 parts to the game,Moltzen only excells when we have the ball, when we don't it is another story.

Yep. Moltz at 1 = good times for the wests tigers.

I wouldn't be to fussed to be honest if he does go, Lui has got the no 7 all sewn up now and Miller will be a star. Moltzen has plenty of talent but if wishes to play in the halves he will need to go else where.

I would hate to see any of the current squad leave especially those that have come into grade with us,
I agree with "Granto87" we are well covered at half with Lui and Miller.

Anyone going to souths is dead to me.

Yeah good times like the Titans game? :unamused:

Yeah my TV doesn't like it when Moltzen plays fullback either It gets abused and called nasty names and gets threatened .

Is it a smokescreen ?
I still think Souths will prefer Lui.

I thought this would come up soon. Good Luck to him.

Lui then Miller may be the way of the future.

Lui's going nowhere signed til 2013 . Again what the talk is (I know that talk is cheap) but Finch and either Lima or Hoffman will be coming to Rabbittohs in 2012 . All have 1 year deals with Wigan . Supposedly Sandow was seething when they signed Sutton instead of him and thats why he left .

Moltzen is a good back up to McKinnon and Lui if either gets injured. McKinnon is not getting any younger and you can never be real sure how those hamstrings will go either. How old is McKinnon, 30?? How old was Brett Hodgson when we got rid of him to the super league, McKinnon probably only has this year and next year in first grade anyhow left before he gets too slow especially wih a dodgy hamstring as well. Unless they hve some unheralded juniors coming through in mind, i dont think moltzen would go anywhere at all, what do souths have to offer really. Didnt Lui just sign a new contract as well???

Soths are supposedly looking to negotiate/buy someone out of their current contract- so could be anybody really.

Can't imagine we'd be letting anyone go without a fight whether it be Moltzen, Lui or Miller.

Definitely a players market though, a decent half could dictate terms at the moment due to the shortage of quality in the NRL.

Michael Monaghan would be a good signing for Souths. He's probably still wrapped up with a team in the ESL though isn't he?

I dislike Souffs they shouldnt even be in the comp, where are all there supporters now, why would be want to go to souths anyway, what have they got to offer???

Much of this arguement centres around where TIm sees his future. If he is a frustrated halfback then he may well push to leave. Something tells me though had that been the case Parramatta would have snapped him up. If he is happy to develop his utility value then I cannot see him wanting to move.

Additionally, Tim is not an organising style half back. This is what Souths desperately need. To my mind he is much in the same mould of Benji (without the brilliance) in that he is much more effective two away from the ruck attacking lazy defenders on the edge. He is also more effective as a ball runner than distributor, this was where he came under notice as a future star (not for his passing game).

While I have heard about his kicking game, it is either not wanted or used at the Tigers, at least Sandow ticked some boxes in that respect.

If TIm is able to secure a large contract and release, I say best of luck to him. There will be great weight of expectation on him to perform at Souths. He should however look at his own game (strengths and weaknesses) and make an assessment on how this will work at Souths. He also knows the coach, style and structures at the Tigers. It is not immaterial that Souths will have a new coach who is largely unknown and that could be to his detriment should he choose to leave.
