Souths salary cap

Souths have just resigned the 2 burgess twins for an extra 3 and 2 years respectively, they join a large list of players:

-Sam burgess
-Luke burgess
-issac Luke
-Nathan Merritt
-Greg inglis
-Ben teo
-Chris McQueen
-Adam Reynolds
-John sutton
-plus the up and coming 5/8th.

To me I don't really think they will be able to keep all these players under the salary cap, George burgess must be on a significant pay increase.

Chris McQueen and Reynolds would be due for increases or extensions as well.
I don't believe that it will be feasible to keep a roster like this, and also a full first grade squad under the salary cap.

I believe there will have to be one or two, who won't be able to be retained.

What are people's thoughts?

It could be a situation worth watching?

If Souths gave money to Mother Burgess for some fantasy role would that be recorded in the cap?

I always wondered the same thing

Not if it comes from a 3rd party…

I always wondered this. You will see Mother Burgess driving a Holden Commodore one week and the week after she's in an Aston Martin.

I think it was reported the other day that McQueen is on next to nothing and is looking for an upgrade to fit with his newly found origin status so I'm guessing that will be interesting what happens with him, might be one they have to offload.
They almost look storm like from a few seasons ago something has to give.

I don't know who's salary cap looks more dodgy

The Bunnies or the Roosters , funnily enough these two sides are premiership favourites

Don't trust Politis one bit to be honest

It's actually pretty easy to stay under the cap as long as players dont quickly fall out of form, get injured and you have good management.

I mean, for us you could take out benji, blair, lawrence, ayshford, utai, lote, pettybourne and moltzen and you'd have aprox. 2 million, enough to buy both burgess brothers, merrit and their halves

Problem is, contracts need to be paid out, we'd have to pay overs to make all those changes happen etc. etc.

Remember you still have blokes like Asotasi ,Crocker ,Peats,Ben Lowe none of whom would come cheap

Sorry ,but when you have back up players who are better than half the comps starters ,something's not right ,the same goes for the Rorters

Everyone has heard the story about rusty and the money in the freezer?

Lol, no wonder he keeps pumping out the movies lol.

Asotasi was on big money but he won't be there next season so they get some space there.
You're also overpaying guys like a few guys, especially Merritt and McQueen. There aren't too many wingers on the big money and McQueen wasn't chased by too many other clubs.

Asotasi leaves for the ESL at the end of this year. Peats was on the cheap beforehand and hence why he leaves for the Eels next season. Ben Lowe wouldn't be on too much and guys like Crocker & King while experienced good signings are somewhat like the Anasta signature for us. They'll be getting decent money but not what we think.

Asotasi is surely being shopped around. You would have to think he would be on decent coin. If he wasn't initially signed for big cash, you would think he would have received a substantial upgrade along the way. He came from a premiership winning Bulldogs side, came within an inch of the 2006 Grand Final and was captain of New Zealand for a period.

Ben Te'o was what they got to replace Dave Taylor, reportedly for a lot less.

The ones who are likely earning the majority of the money are Greg Inglis and Sam Burgess.

Adam Reynolds will be due for an upgrade (if he hasn't received one already), but these are never as much as people say they are (think DCE being reported 575k/year after their GF win, no way that was true).

Re: Rooster situation,
From what I have heard, The Roosters had extra space in their cap in 2012 and were able to pay a chunk of Maloney's contract, while he was still playing for The Warriors.

Only thing I'm not sure about with them is the Michael Jennings-Penrith situation. From what I can recall, Penrith wanted to get rid of him for the price they paid (600k was the reported amount, way over market value).

Asotasi reportedly signed for around 450 k five seasons ago .Crocker would still have to be on 200 k and so would King in my opinion ,these blokes are in their final seasons of their careers they wouldn't have taken chump change to help fund their retirements
