Stand alone weekend for Aus vs NZ and City-Country

Would anyone else prefer if the NRL made Origin stand alone, rather than a test match eight weeks into the season that no one really cares that much about and the farce that City-Country is?

I have no problem with the mid year test….although if it was played on ANZAC day it would be better.

The shaggers are our cousins and we love each other to death. What better way to promote this then a game of footy where we smash the bejesus out of one another lol.....

I agree the SOO series should be stand alone and a direct stepping stone to the test side. Those who excell at Origin play for Australia. If injuries crop up then the next best should be chosen.

So thats 1 weekend set aside, but because the season is starting two weeks earlier than usual, there must be another stand-alone weekend somewhere. Anyone have an idea when and why that is?

I think City V Country was being looked at to get canned when the new TV Rights deals comes in in 2013.

Also, I heard there was supposed to be a weekend set aside for a triple header match in Sydney, another triple header in Brisbane and a double header in NZ. Does anyone know if this came about and if so which round it is?

City v. Country is a joke because by City it means Sydney

Newcastle is also a City yet at times most of the Country side have been made up of Newcastle players.

The concept is OK as long as it is accurate.

Beyond that, Tests, Origins, I don't really care about any of them unless my club members are playing in them.

And beyond that Origin football is better than Test football. Sad but true.

Senexx, I understand your point but the way the selection is for City V Country is through the local competition of where you played your junior football.

I played in the Campbelltown competition and would therefore be deemed to be eligible for City. Anything past a certain area is deemed Country.

I completely agree with how the selection currently is. If Newcastle was deemed 'City' then Wollongong, by the same line of thinking, would also be deemed 'City'. If you were to base selection on this line of thought, then only a handfull of players could represent 'Country' and the City V Country match would be very lopsided with City being able to select the majority of players from NSW.
