So from this side I take it big Ava must have got the call up unless hes injured? Good on ya mate if he did, very excited to see a bloke I played a bit of junior footy making grade. Especially in Tigers colours.

Jack Madden is from 2012 NYC squad. Played a bit of Bundy with BNRU too. Goes alright, fairly solid defender, but not overly flashy in attack. Gets the job done, though.

Does Sonni play in the 2nd Row or as a prop? I can't remember from last years NYC team. Either way it would be great to see him get a taste of 1st grade sometime this year, he has the aggression but I would reckon he might need to work on his fitness. He would be WT version of Fui Fui.

NSW Cup preview: Heavy focus on defence

Wests Tigers NSW Cup Coach Paul Fletcher is still in disbelief how a side can score 42 points in a match and still not win.

That’s the problem facing Fletcher following the side’s 44-42 loss to Windsor Wolves at Campbelltown Sports Stadium last Sunday in one of the highest NSW Cup scores in years.

To help address the issue, Fletcher has taken a leaf out of Wests Tigers NRL Coach Mick Potter’s book with the first two training sessions this week being all about defence ahead of the round three clash against Manly at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, March 23.

“It has been a full week of defence. I think the boys left their shoulders at home last week,’’ Fletcher said, bluntly.

“We have been working on our contact, our technique and winning those early tackles.

“I took a leaf out of Mick Potter’s book. The ball will be seen again in our captain’s run tomorrow.

“Manly have some quality players in Ben Farrar, Esi Tonga, Dane Chisholm, Kayne Lawton and George Rose but I’ve only been focusing on us and making sure we improve. You score 42 points and get beat. It is unheard of.

“It shows we don’t have any problems with our attack, just our defence.

“In our first match we lead 12-0 and our defence and discipline let us down in the end. Our discipline was better last week but our defence was not to my liking.”

The match kicks off at 1.10pm. Fox Sports will broadcast the game live.
