State of Origin 2026

I know we are all arm chair coaches but jebus surely the NSW selectors can see the patterns.

Every year Qld pick players not injured in form, they pick pick angry middles that run through brick walls up front and active work horses at the back and a creative hooker.

Off that they have speed and athleticism in the backs that all can create something out of nothing.

We just try to reinvent a system that has worked for years.

1 of our starting forwards got over 100m vs 4 of Queensland's. Even Haas, who was underdone, didn't get there.
Cant win the game with zero go forward.

Could go on and on, surely actual coaches see these type of problems.

NSW injured player list
Moses kicked well other then that non-existent
Hass beast but underdone
Barnett still underdone has done nothing in his two games
Cleary looked average carry the shoulder injury and seems wasted without the kicking duty.

I don't know but it just doesn't seem as hard as we make it

Cleary 10 missed tackles tonight. Robson 6.
Yep - this nonsense of Cleary finally getting the monkey off his back and owning SOO. What a myth - he looks good when NSW are well on top and he chances his arm. But when the going is tough and they need someone to take control he is nowhere to be found. Contrast that to the Qld halves. They took control of that second half, chanced their hand a few times and romped home. Cleary is a great 7 in a champion club at club level but i'm yet to see that greatness at SOO.

On top of virtually courting of players from other teams via commentary of games the constant praising of both "Superstar" Galvin & "Creamy Bula" before those players were able to be legally approached by his club is ironically a DOG ACT & the NRL should take action if he does it again, make him either quit Channel 9 (though after the next TV rights come up he might not have a job there anymore) or quit the Dogs.

There's more than a few Dogs supporters would hope it's the latter going by the "banter" over on the "Kennel Forum"!
I used to quite like Gould, thought he had great insight into the game, but he has definitely gotten more smarmy over the years and his narcissistic tendencies are now shining brightly for all to see.

When did Mal prove he can’t coach at Origin level?
Mal had a champion qld team it wasn't his coaching, if you think qld were a champion team cause of Mals coaching good luck to you, Mal coached Canberra in the 90s I don't think they made finals, Mals nrl coaching career was on par with his political career bwahahahaaaaaaaa hahahaaaaaaaaaaa

I didn’t get to see the game but the score looks about what the first game would’ve been had Klown not bet on NSW.
I met Loz a couple of times when he was playing, didn’t strike me as a coach, and now I know why, he can’t pick a side. He’s not picking the 13 best and making them fit in nor is he picking the form players by their position. He’s got 2x structured 7’s, no 5/8, he’s changed fullbacks, picked one of the most boring Hookers since the Sheena Easton lookalike on Oxford st, he’s picking of the pigs is diabolical, and unless the whole panthers team gets picked then YeYo to the bench. Anyway who’s the Klown backing in the last?

QLD to date do it better. I don't know how or why, but it doesn't matter what it looks like on paper they just find a way.
Last night it looked Daley had as much of a clue as I do.
Yes when it comes to SOO, Qld just want it more and it’s been like that since its inception. It won’t change, no matter what teams are on the field.

You only have to look at the Paul Vautin coached Qld to see that. He had a team of practically unknowns up against a very strong NSW side and not only won the series, but won it 3-0. They had no right to win any of those games (on paper), but like just about every year, they found a way to win. It all comes down to who wants it more and Qld always want it more.

Did Moses play , must have missed him

There are a whole lot of reasons NSW lost last night, but the most obvious is simply that QLD were too good, so hats off to them. But for Christ's sake, can we ring in the following changes:

- Cleary dropped. Moses and Strange as the halves. Cleary is a champion at club level but take him out of the Panthers machine and the magic quickly wears off. Moses and Strange far better suited to the arena.
- Murray to start at 13 and Yeo to the bench.
- Staggs banished and hopefully McLean back from injury to replace him.
- To'o out. Time to try Kiraz.
- Dylan Lucas out, Olakautu to the bench and Liam Martin to start in the backrow. That guy gets origin.
- Robson to start and Api to come on after 25. Of all Daley's braindead decisions last night, this one was the most baffling. Robson was dead on his feet, throwing balls at everyone else's feet, and he leaves Api there to catch a cold on the bench.
- Daley to finish this series and then never, ever be allowed near the Blues squad again. The guy couldn't coach a turd out of a toddler's arse.

Some bright spots in an otherwise disappointing night:
- Marky Mark is an out and out star and was our best by far. Glad we got to see him in a Blues jersey before he heads off again.
- Koula looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. I had my reservations about him at this level but he hasn't let anyone down.
- Strange and Hudson Young are both built for origin. They should both be in the team for many years to come.

Next game will have Liam Martin, Olakau'ato, Crichton , Latrell, Tom Turbo added to the team.
I'd also include Angus Crichton as a starter.
Just have Crichton, Haas , Barnett and Martin go out and bash Queensland.

The last time they tried that the Queensland forwards spent the game in the foetal position

The players should just let Cleary and Yeo coach the team. Just ignore Laurie.

Matt King should be running the interchange.

I'll be on NSW at a very juicy price next game.

He may already be doing that. Don't forget, it's not just Laurie in the box, King and Brett White? both part of the coaching staff.

Dont mind this, though Id go Dylan Edwards over Teddy...he was a handbrake last night.
Brailey instead of Robson...just has more everything.
Glad you didnt mention Terrel May...love him for us but hes nowhere near Origin it would damage him imo
Heighno to replace Daley

I heard that Michael Hagan was the brains trust in those teams and Mal was the figurehead.

Great observations A05 !

That game was so disappointing, started ok and then nsw just fell into a hole , qld straight up,the middle , , what I don’t get is the kicks in play , most went straight to cobbo who was on fire , kick to the middle or other side , our left side attack was hardly used and when it was it was run side ways to the side line no straightening up , Robson was gassed but no API , good for us but what a waste , API is so good at defence in the middle and a better 9 overall , Brian T just poor , Mosses kicks well but was almost non existent in the game , Cleary just to much to do , Cleary / Strange would be better , Hass not bad , Barnett average , the bloke from Newcastle back row , Coach played hm on the wrong side he plays left I’m sure , bad call , dropping manly back rower another bad call , and he is right side , and big , Daley is the worst coach the blues have had , he sits there and looks like he has no idea , I was calling for API to go on with 20/25 to go , same for Strange , Robson and mosses out , api and Strange in , instead he bought in the prop who was rubbish again , mass changes needed or we loose the next game , just my rant

Yeah, probably still got heaps he owes the bookies. 🤣
Whilst he’s a questionable referee, especially in light of these recent revelations and some “ curious” decisions ,both on field and in the bunker, I thought he showed a lot of ticker in fronting up last night, and there seems to be no contentious discussion points coming out of the game.
Maybe that was part of his recovery therapy. I wish him good luck in kicking the habit , which is a hard one to break.

Gotta sack Daley immediately. These 2 performances were terrible. The selection of Tedesco embarrassing. Lucas's on the right over Houmole proved to be one of the worst selections of all time, im a big fan of Lucas's, but he was shocking. Picking 3 locks on the bench (taking into account Strange was planned to be used in the middle), the guy as a coach is cringey and clueless.

Get Andrew Johns to do a cameo for one game and see if he can lift the group he selects. It’s about getting a guy they react to now, Johns or Stuart are the options for me.
x2

The crazy thing to me is all the changes i see made dont fix imo our biggest issue which is winning the middle. We get bashed out, enthused, and out energised. We also can't stop their momentum. Need some fear factor players in the middle and some never mis a tackle workhorses.

And as controversial as this is i feel like the passion is slowly seeping away with the addition of players that play for other countries. Not that they arent passion it but the i will die on this line doesnt seem to be there. Could be wrong
