Stefano Utoikamanu #241

We're a my jobs done culture, Most other clubs have a what can I do next culture.
That is definitely what we need to change most. What can I do to make the next guys job easier, get to the right position, not overcommit to the tackle so you an be the A defender etc. These are the things those 1% efforts that enble line speed or give you that inch needed to make the break, cross the line, make the tackle.

Terrell May, replacing Stef has been clocking up double the metres more than Stef ever did.

Not missing Stef at all.
We could have used him in the Sione Fainu role . But not for 900k . And he doesn’t have anywhere near the consistent impact that Royce hunt does . Key word in that is consistent . I know Stef can get his Jonah Lomu impersonation going at times , but it’s maybe for 10 minutes every 3 games. Hunt is a wrecking ball the whole 20-30mins he’s on .
Stefanos issue is his eyes light up when he sees smaller men in front of him in the defensive line .
Royce Hunts eyes light up when he’s running at the best props in the game. Stef just is younger with a bigger motor . But as others said somehow we have jagged a player who’s bought in , who’s twice as good in that role , offers leadership , and his 200k cheaper .
And a far more consistent player in the battering ram role .
I’ve been saying for ages that I think Pole is the better prop prospect . He always finds his front had a far quicker play the ball , and is stronger through contact , and leg drive once the defence does get a hold of him . His defence his just a level below stefanos at the moment .

I think we are definitely missing Stef. May is certainly out playing him however Stef would still be our next best front rower. Not many sides consistently win the middle without a pair of quality front rowers and 1 more halfway decent one on the bench.
Though he is not performing to the price we were offering so also not upset we lost him given a performance to cost ratio.

Thought I saw somewhere, last game he had 4 hit ups and 80 meters

Stef had more than 4 hit ups for 80 metres based of the NRL stats, however compared to Terrell May we have hit a jackpot. Stef is in a good system and will benefit from it, however we know he dogged it last year with us. May has been a beast and hits better in defence with 39.6 avg tackles per game against Stef at 20.5 per game even allowing for May playing more minutes.

I think losing Stefano was a blessing in disguise. I would take May any day of the week with the amount of minutes he is able to play and his defence is much better too.

Stefano is still a very good quality player though and wish him all the best 👍
