Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Yep its just a bit meh.

He could of toughed it out on good money at the Tigers in the hope of turning it around, instead he has walked into the prem favourites this year. I don't really care for him, but I also don't hold it against him.

I honestly don't think ice and stef had what it took to lead us off the bottom anyway. Talent, yes, attitide, no.

Galvin is a different story to the above.
Your middle paragraph sums it up for me.

Both go hard when it suits them.

Majority of players would fear finishing their careers without a GF win. The NRL is not a level playing field and certain clubs have the ability to attract players be it through 3rd party deal loophole in the salary cap or because of the coach’s credentials or club’s history/chances of winning a GF.

Stefano, Galvin and many that have left our club and other struggling clubs have done so because they believe they have a better chance elsewhere. Only way to keep players is for us to improve as a club on and off the field.

Pascoe and the fedora in recent past, the club owners board squabbling and the coaching merry go round set us back. We have taken a few steps forward but have a long way to go before players fell like they have a chance of winning the gf at wt and are willing stay for a little less or leave other clubs to come to us.

An accurate assessment, and exceedingly true when considering the short length of a players career. When Stefano came to Tigers he said he was playing for his brother who had a severe neck injury during a game, confining him to a wheelchair.
Winning may have different meanings for individual players, and those motivations can create some urgency to achieve personal goals.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes in future seasons. He is however not an enforcer, just a very big boy. He doesn't have the character for it, it's obvious and the more he tries to pretend he does is hilarious.

From the Roar:

8. Stefano Utoikamanu: Had a strong first stint but shot himself in the foot with a costly handling error. Didn’t do much in his second-half sojourn. Next GF he will wait until after the final siren before shooting off his mouth after Brisbane had the last laugh this time around following his stuck-up sledges earlier in the week. 4/10

Had a chuckle when in the last 5 minutes on broncos try line Munster got a offload to grant and he looked at the mighty boy just standing flat footed and decided to run himself when there was 4 in front of him.
Even earlier noticed he’s very lazy at being in the right position to receive the ball. Almost looked like he was uninterested

He was poor - he looked out of his depth and they just did not use him other than a decoy when there were looking to get out of trouble and they needed some players to stand up. He was definitely not their go to.
That stupid decision to run his mouth off would not have gone down well and I bet any accolades Bellamy gave him the week before were stripped especially when leading into a GF. Way to give the Broncos some extra motive as if they didn't already have enough.

Yeah agree, he was his old self again last night, the hype train has well and truly left the station.
Hahaha.....

Wasnt a classy move with all the chirp chirp. Gave the Broncos some extra motivation and you knew they would grind their way back in. Beautiful to watch and back to Bleak city they go.

Seen haas move from the other side of the field to defend against him early in the first half and then moved back to his side
He only assisted in the tackle but I hoped for fireworks later but didn’t happen

Big Stef …just like when he was here …went missing when it mattered… enjoy the offseason mate…
It’s petty I know but I was happy that Stef didn’t get a ring. Just didn’t want to hear any more about him going from wooden spooner to premiership winner. A bit like the satisfaction of seeing Galvin miss out on a GF. I don’t care what happens for either of them now next year. On a positive, I was happy for Madge after the disaster of him at the Tigers. He deserved the win and when you look at his CV he is a good coach. Just couldn’t tame the dysfunctional tigers.
