There are plenty of mitigating factors as to why we're off to a slow start this year. Pinning it on one particular reason is foolhardy and hardly insightful.

Especially a conditioning coach.

Conditioning has very little to do with it. We were missing tackles from the first whistle.

We've had players gasping for air, hand on hips after ten minutes mate. We've got two guys in Groat and Big Ben who are about ten kilos overweight.

How you train nearly always reflects how you play. Folkes had intense sessions where there was no laughter…game faces were expected every session. Fifita wasn't played while he was 'too fat'.

This season = completely different 'culture'.

I think Folkes had next to nothing to do with our performance last year and his loss exactly the same influence as per out start this year.

Sheens was a much more significant factor in us making the finals last year and for our poor start this year.

It does but Sheens didn't miss one of the 48 tackles on Monday night so the players need a long look at themselves. Having said, his 2 backs on the bench and barely playing Bell incensed me on the night.

So would I. He was a big asset for us.

But its misleading to hand our appearances in finals the last 2 years based purely on Folkes' influence.

There are a number of factors why we made the finals in 2010 and 2011, so you can't pin it all on one person.

No doubting that Folkes was one reason, Lui was another.

Its becoming more and more obvious that Lui was the one who made this side look good. Forget the off-field bs he was our main man for two yrs

I've blamed players too but the one common denominator is the coach, surely he is ultimately responsible? Otherwise why have a coach, just send the players out there and let them play.

I never once bagged Sheens for sticking with Lui, I always thought he was the best option and it proved to be the right decision. We have missed Lui big time and Sheens chopping and changing in the halves and trying to turn Marshall into a 7 has crippled us

I may criticize Sheens where I see fit but I call a spade a spade, when he deserves credit (like sticking with Lui) I'll give it to him.

When he does stupid things, like move the best 9 in NSW to 7 to accommodate a player who was playing for Mounties last year, then I'll rightly criticize him.

Folkes is a big missing ingredient for mine as well - had us fitter and defencivly at our best . The question was above where are the dragons this year because he has gone thier - well they may be struggling in attack but they are the fourth best defensive side and always look fit (and they have a lot less talent then we do)

I've been saying it for years he's the head coach we need to have, his record is as impressive as anyones. he also has the mind set for change and to make the big calls we need.

Unless Folkes has redeveloped and re-examined his head coaching philosophy, I wouldn't want him near the head coach position at Tigers.

Towards the end of his stint at Dogs he was woeful, from reports he lost the confidence of the playing group and left the club with a wooden spoon in his final year. His 2004 GF win came off the back of the clubs cheating and recruitment efforts 2 years before.

As strength and conditioning coach, his results were great though. This is probably why he found work with the Windies as a strength/conditioning coach straight after Bulldogs sacked him in 2008.
