They were the social media images that caused quite a stir as Wests Tigers players returned to training on Wednesday this week.

Wests Tigers prop Alex Twal — who was already one of the fittest big men in the competition — returned looking as shredded as ever and seemingly primed to deliver his best season since debuting for the club back in 2017.

Living at home with his family throughout the game-wide isolation period, the Lebanon international took full advantage of a quality home gym set up and a protein-packed diet provided by his mother's home-cooking skills to return to the club's new elite training facility in prime physical condition.

“The boys are really excited to be back and there's definitely a real thrill around the place," Twal said. "It's definitely good to be back.

“It’s a little different coming back in as it’s something we’re not used to but hopefully it’s not too long before we can get back into our normal training routine so we’re working on our craft and skills.

“We’re making sure we know all our plays and our movements are right and ready to go for our first game — whenever that is."

Twal said the buzz of returning from break, coupled with the side's arrival in a brand new training facility as Concord Oval undergoes a much-needed redevelopment, was noticeable throughout the squad.

“A few of the senior players and Madge said a lot when we returned just get everyone back on track,” said Twal. "But you can just tell that every single one of the boys have been eager to get back in to it.

“With our new training facility here there’s an extra bit of buzz around the place and I don’t think any of the boys are short of motivation.”

@Demps might need some private time to absorb that shot.

Dude looks more a more like a cyborg each year. No offence intended, just looks perfectly built and has the motor to match. Could fill the lead role in the the next Robocop film.

Might fire off one or two of his own as well.

Lebanon pride! He's seems like a great kid. Humble and hard working Lebanese Australian kid. Stays out of trouble unlike those other knucke heads

The flu jab needle will probably break when it makes contact with his shoulder...

Twal will make the flu inject itself

Can he do something about the skinny calves.

Kidding, he looks how I look in the mirror when I have half a bottle of scotch and take my (strong) glasses off.

Twal certainly gets the arm-shred award. But you know what, Reynolds looking pretty ripped as well. I suppose if you've got nothing much else to occupy yourself with, and you are used to professional training, might as well get on with it.

One thing I'll say however is that the look the player is potentially not relevant to how their actual match conditioning is. By this I mean you can spend corona lockdown doing bicep curls and burpees and be lean as steamed chicken breast, but that doesn't mean squat if your core strength has dropped or you are blowing for fitness after 10 mins of game time.

Absolutely, but it helps if you're not carrying a spare tyre like others have in the past. I mean Latrell came back severely underdone after his contract saga was resolved.

In fairness to everyone I can officially announce this is the hardest May preseason ever. To quote mr t "I pity the fool who denies it".

I reckon most footballers are disciplined enough not to come back in bad shape, because most don't have enough pure talent to rely on despite lack of conditioning.
