Sun setting on Leichardt Oval?

I highlt doubt that the goernment will pay to upgrade Campbelltown stadium when the Wests Tigers are the only team that will use the ground. A stadium at Blacktown or Liverpool will have multiple tennants, and makes alot more sense in relation to their new stadium policy.

As I stated earlier I belive Warwick Farm would be the ideal area with infrastructure already in place.

A stadium in Liverpool would see far more use then any upgraded Campbelltown Sports Stadium with the amount of different teams in the LAC.

Brass tax botom line though is that the government would be far better off investing in projects like the Light Rail extension just approved and improve our public transport enough to not larger stadiums anywhere they do not already exist.

The reality is that into about the third TV rights deal (assuming moderate growth in its worth) the NRL should be in a position to invest in grounds as they see fit in joint projects with State governments

I just think it would be fiscally irresponsible for any Government to commit to that level of stadium in what is the last outpost of the Sydney basin. Campbelltown Sports Stadium will never be central enough and have an immediate draw like the liverpool area would especially when you consider how much soccer is played within the LAC as well and how that multi useage really sells the location

Logistically it makes a lot more sense in Liverpool as it draws in from a greater area etc.

Ideally the situation would be using what is currently Warwick Farm racecourse to be perfectly honest

Interesting concept the Warick Farm idea has a rail station and heaps of land and pretty central ..worth thinking about but would be a decade of . Probable 6 SFS for $$$$ and city brigade and 6 Campbelltown makes sense.

Sydney does not need any new stadiums until A-League and NRL start selling out matches every week.

If the government is looking at a decentralised stadium model, which is their current policy, then they need to build a 30-40000 seat stadium in Sydneys west. I'm not talking tomorrow, but within the next 5 to 10 years the current suburban grounds will become unusualble without upgrades.

I'm sick of all this BS … Governments should be building hospitals and improving public transport.
If the Sharks can own their own home ground what's to say everyone shouldn't.
Instead of these clubs whinging about getting more of a cut from the TV deal, only because they want to throw more and more cabbage at Thurston or Scott or Farah or whoevers off contract ... How's about they build their own bloody stadiums.

It's like a bloke who'd rather cop the centerlink handout to pay his rent whilst jagging a part time job on the side to pay for hookers (that's the painted lady variety).

Geez, rugby league, it's just so not important in the scheme of things .... As much as I love it dearly.

The idea of building the stadium in Western Sydney is to allow multiple NRL teams to play out of the same venue. This really rules out Campbelltown as an option. The only real options are a new stadium in Blacktown or Liverpool with the possibility of Parramatta stadium being upgraded. I don't like the idea of upgrading Parramatta stadium and think the stadium will get more use if it is built in Liverpool or Blacktown as they are alot more central.

I think you're spot on. Campbelltown is not really favourably located for a stadium along the lines the state government are talking about.

With the economy the way it is and no major international sports events comin out way I can't see any new stadiums in nsw

The government doesn't own Warwick farm so can't see how they could build a stadium there. Cost millions just to buy the land from the atc. Also I think you'll find c'town is no longer the final outpost. Try picton/Wilton about another 20km south. I reckon parramatta will get the face lift.

I think the move from leichhardt is more l Iikely to be 2020ish.
as for where the western Sydney stadium will be, I feel at this stage campbelltown is probably a bit far out , as is Penrith, I reckon Parramatta or blacktown will get the nod

Foresight.
Thats what the Magpies have lacked always
Humpdys looking only at next year
Cambo, the final outpost, Penrith - too far out

Not in 25 years time they wont be

That is the whole point of the report. Instead of trying to fund about 8 boutique stadiums across the state, the state government wants a plan in place whereby it invests in 4 high quality state of the art stadiums.

It is about efficient allocation of funding and allows more improvements in other areas of government responsibility such as transport, hospitals etc…

Liverpool is the perfect site for a new stadium. I think the Bulldogs were before the salary cap scandal propossing to build a 30,000 - 40,000 indoor stadium at Liverpool near the Council chambers.

A staium at Liverpool would be used by thr Bulldogs, Tigers and western sydney A league team and may also host bigger Panthers and Eels games as well.

So is Humphreys just trying to use a bit of scare tactics to get what he wants?

Yeah maybe a bit of reverse psychology, hopefully, it will get people thinking a bit more about the 'what if' the Tigers do move **away** from Balmain.

Possibly, but this day was always coming. The day where the club themselves acknowledged the white elephant in the room which is the days at Leichardt are almost at an end. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that this issue has been addressed by the club and isn't much of a stretch to think Humpty might be genuine. If not now, it was bound to happen soon anyway

I don't know why everyone is looking at alternative options to Ctown, eg Livo, Warrick Farm, etc when we have our own ground just down the rd. The focus should be on trying to make something that is already ours, in our heartland bigger and better. Why push for a ground that other teams and codes can use as well when we have a ground we can have all to ourselves

Mate I'm of the same opinion, and on Humphrey's, maybe his thoughts reflect those who are now the power within the club.
