Anybody else think that the job description sounds like a ridiculous amount of work and range of responsibilities for 1 person? I guess whoever gets the gig will have some assistant(s) but still seems like a lot.

Lol, I was thinking exactly the same thing, when I read it Sambre.
Hell of a lot for one person. 😱pen_mouth:
Salary must be real good too, for that amount of responsibility.

I thought the opposite. I thought it would be a piss of cake. All the have to do is read footy forums , work out who we should buy. Then walk into Pascoe's office and demand we buy player X.
Maybe turn up at training and Tuesday's and Thursdays and attend a few white board session so you're in the loop. Then say to the board "we have one of the best junior nurseries in the comp" let buy some experience to place around them and we'll be a top four team in 2018\. That should keep you in a top job for at least two years, maybe more if you sweet talk the media and get the coach sacked (like Gould did) .

Lol…

Buckets works in a gym…. I'd say we need. Some. One a. Bit more experience d in managerial matters

If that's true then you'd think that would count him out. He also doesn't have 5 years experience in league management. But yeah i'd heard his name whispered around a bit, which is odd seeing he's barely been sighted in recent times.

Toovey , I think he is an accountant by trade as well as a great ex footy player and also a handy coach

Cook the books
Nose the game
Takes over from Taylor if he is punted

Shane Richardson has gone back to Souths in a similar role - http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/teams/rabbitohs/shane-richardson-has-left-the-nrl-to-join-south-sydney-as-general-manager-of-football/news-story/5c9136b5935210dfb95cce1daa8a1444

The Tigers have been inundated with applicants for the job of football manager since I broke the story that they had parted ways with Phil Moss last month.

Two of the best credentialed applicants I am hearing are in the hunt are former Sharks coach Stuart Raper and former Tigers captain Mark O’Neill.

Both have plenty of experience and are among the favourites for the position.

Big Mark would probably be the punters favoured choice, my concern does he have the necessary experience dealing with salary caps, player managers, recruitment, contracts and most of the other things in the job description.

I am not sure this is a job for nice guys and I would like to think there is a better qualified applicant out there, in saying that I am not trying to have a dig at big Mark as deservingly so he is a club legend.

Like supercoach said this job description is complex and wide ranging.

Buckets would be a great bloke and im sure he is an intelligent guy. However does he have the clout and the contacts to make things tick over? He might be perfect for some criteria and not for others.

More likely to get it are probably the old washed up coaches like a Stuart Raper, Daniel Anderson, Brian Smith, Tim Sheens etc.

I Don't know who is the best man to be honest, I mean Penrith got Gould he is probably the best out there but even they have had some rocky times.

Is a fine line between having favourite sons back, and maintaining the boys club. I know it was a while ago, but think if they are looking to changethe culture at the club, they should appoint someone with proven track record and no affiliation with the club. That includes Brian Smith and his dodgy review from a couple of years ago.

Peter Mulholland would be ideal

He already has a gig, can not remember where, maybe Canberra,so I guess he is out of the question. But your right he ticks most of the boxes

You need an old head to undertake this type of role.

Someone who has a certain level of respect within the game. Guys who can call up the big name stars and make them take notice.

I like buckets, and I know he has been working at the NRL for a while now, but not sure if he ticks the boxes for this specific role.

Look at the guys occupying these roles at other clubs.. Bozo Fulton, Phil Gould, Shane Richardson… that's the calibre of person that will make the role a success. Problem is these types of senior figures are few and far between.

If we are talking about bringing in 'one of the boys', I'd much rather Wayne Pearce (who is said to be possibly leaving the NRL Commission shortly).

This is an important point. Whilst they'll need to be a solid cap-ologist, they'll need to be able to have some gravitas in the recruiting sphere as well.

If you read the job description you need a person with super human skills, but I am with you I think we need a person who has a profile big enough to actually attract and retain players, not really concerned how he/she does it, but other clubs seem to be able to build amazing rosters by what ever means and if we want to be competitive we have to do the same.

In other words we need a creative cap-ologist
