**Kurt Gidley says there is no bad blood between Knights players and the returning Timana Tahu
Barry Toohey**

NEWCASTLE captain Kurt Gidley has dismissed any suggestion of lingering bad blood between Knights players and the club's latest recruit, Timana Tahu.

The 30-year-old dual international, who will miss the rest of the season with Penrith due to a torn pectoral muscle, agreed to a two-year deal yesterday to return to the Knights under Wayne Bennett from 2012.

Gidley welcomed the signing despite the controversy surrounding the last time Tahu played in Newcastle, for Parramatta against the Knights, last season. Only weeks after walking out on the NSW Origin side, Tahu was at the centre of a storm again after being sin-binned following a volatile opening to the game.

High shots on James McManus and Ben Cross resulted in words being exchanged with Gidley and Adam MacDougall.

"No, there's no drama there at all," Gidley said yesterday, revealing he had already congratulated Tahu.

"I actually messaged T (Tahu) not long ago just to congratulate him."

So that's two contracts he's signed now without being released from Parramatta.

Seriously, the guy doesn't know whether he's Arthur or Martha. Rubbishes the club for having a racist culture and then returns to them after all that transpired last year? I suppose backflips are his specialty though.

He is not the player he once was and unless they have picked him up for next to nothing he won't be of any use to them

Terrible news.
If he plays center, it pushes back my homie siuatonga likiliki's chance at getting a first grade crack.
He's wasting away @ reserves, has all the talent and potential.
I saw him last week @ Oporto with some babes and the dude is massive in real life, experienced or not I'd choose him over Tahu any day of the week.

I can't believe Parramatta haven't blocked either move, they're just letting it happen. I'd enforce the contract and force him to play in a CRL group comp rather than being allowed to earn coin for another NRL side.

I love it when rival clubs waste their money, Another feel good story here for me.

Congrats Newcastle… You will get at least 4 good games from Tahu in 2 years.

Paul Whatuira has retired, I think it was about three weeks ago.

Thanks mate must of missed it Wondered why he was not in NSW cup

How does this guy still get NRL contracts? If he is on anything more than about 100k a year it's too much. I guess Naqama and/or Sau are on their way out. If Boyd does end up playing for Newie next year, it will be interesting to see how they all fit in.

Naquama will be dropped probably.
Sau is re-signed.

Boyd @ Fullback,
Uate & McManus @ Wings
Sau & Tahu (Tzzzt) @ Center
Beau Henry & Mullen in the halves
Gidley @ #9 with Bedsy @ #14

De Gois also dropped.

As have stated previously Wes Naiqama might be a good pick up at the right price as a goal kicking winger

well i thought his career was well and truly over after last yrs events but he got a lifeline at the riff and now this newcastle deal. goodluck to him. im getting a bit suspicious with all these signings by newcastle though. surely theyll have to offload more than just de gois and naiqama

if he does not succeed at newcastle, I wonder what his excuse will be.

I can just see it now. " the new coach does not like me, I have to apply myself and train his way, not carry on with rubbish, or I will be playing park footy. It's just not fair"

Don't watch the news?
Patterson, Taufua, Kafusi, Zaia are all likely to be dropped.
Massive clean out.

ah yeah heard about patterson, didnt know about the others. none of them would be on massive contracts though

Apart from Gidley, Mullen, Costigan and Uate, none of their current squad would be on much more than 200k a year. Even those 4 would be on about 400k, 300k, 350k and 250k respectively, with Gids and Mullen having long serving player concessions (Gids debuted around 2003 and Mullen in 2005). Compare that to us, we have Benji, Farah, Ellis, Tuqiri, Lawrence and Heighington who would all be on more than 250k a year and we still have enough for Blair. Most of the Knights team are fringe first graders at best.
