Taking a home game to the country

I live in Tamworth but bought a silver membership to SFS games knowing I would not be able to get to all of them but it was my way of supporting my team so no complaints there

However would love to see a game somewhere near me and would turn it into a weekend celebration - but only if Tigers were playing!!!

I think it's a terrific concept which would allow club's to directly connect with league in the country. After all, the country does produce a fair percentage of the game's players, I think it would only be justice to allow these towns to see quality football live. It's been thrown around the last week, but I hope the NRL seriously consider the idea.

Only problem which may arise is whether many country town grounds have adequate corporate facilities to host a FG game.

The notion that the country is the retirement village for older footy players is dead and gone. English super league fits that bill now.
I think our country cousins do deserve some footy up close and personal (we all know nothing beats being at the game). As long as the grounds are good enough.

The group 10 competition that I used to play in which spanned lithgow to mudgee had a few ex nrl players running around. Michael Sullivan, Matt Rieck, Fredd Briggs, Bubba Kennedy, Bronx Goodwin. IMO the presence of these players did more damage than good as clubs looked at buying fringe players from Sydney to remain competitive, which reduced the involvement and need of local players.

Five players in an entire comp isnt going to dilute the local participation by all that much, having good players in your team makes one a better player…they bring with them all the latest knowledge on training and game day techniques.

I live in Bathurst and most of the players mentioned are still running around, Bubba's on the wrong side of 40 but can still command pretty good $$$, It's not especially good for the game unless said players are putting something else back in in the way of coaching clinics etc.
However, most of the players only turn up on the Friday night for one training session and then the game, for the money paid for these players you would be far better off spending the money on locals rather than hoping for instant results, I saw my local club die because of them hiring mercenaries rather than committed players.

If clubs can take games to Perth and Darwin then taking games to regional centres could be an option providing the ground has NRL standard facilities. Best option could be to play an organised trials comp in country locations if there are enough suitable grounds available.

Most if not all of the games played interstate this season happen because the local authorities pay for the games to be held there. There would only be so many locations that could afford to subsidise NRL clubs for them to lose that sort of revenue. Noble idea but many logistical problems to overcome.
