Taylor no longer sole selector

Hi Guys just a few brief tidbits to help 'inform and enlighten' discussion.
Taylor now selects team in consultation with entire coaching panel and final team is vetted by Mark O'Neill. You will note the team selected is now finally beginning to resemble our strongest available 17\. For example 2 changes were made by O'Neill last weekend!
Sirro was not dropped because of spite in point of fact Paul Sironen was informed prior to his son's dropping that the coaching panel was reviewing his performance and it was likely he would be sent back to NSW Cup. His match stats were poor, though his potential remains high. Taylor does still rate him; he is not on the huge dollars many people think, he will not be forced out but is free to explore other opportunities. O'Neill on a mission to prove he will not be swayed by frienships / loyalties.
To his credit Taylor is handling these changes reasonably well - he doesn't really have a choice, his job is well and truly on the line.
Expect more offloads in coming weeks.
Cherington as previously stated is off to Penrith if Farah stays in 2017 - decision imminent.
Liddle now rated better option by coaching panel.
David Gower now a target with salary cap costings set aside to secure him for 2017-2018.
ET will be signed for 2017-2018 with money that had been set aside for Klemmer / the balance of these funds may be enough to secure Gower, but at this stage Parra are $40k above our offer.
Moses & Brooks will take up 1 year extensions / have been offered $100k less than option extension per year for 2018-19 i.e. $500k p.a. No serious offers from other clubs. Both waiting on confirmation of coaching staff for 2017 - 2019.
Taylor will definitely not be here in 2018, they would both prefer he wasn't here in 2017, but there bargaining positions has been greatly diminished by their poor form in recent weeks.
As mentioned in pre-season reports and subsequent updates JAC is something special and can still be secured for $300k for 2017-2018 - $120k / $180k. But he wants an assurance that he will be considered every week for 1st grade, not a guarantee but an assurance. Melbourne have now offered in the region of $320k for 2 years. Its a 50/50 bet because the Tigers have been slow to realise his untold potential - when he truly gets match fit for 1st grade you won't believe what he is capable of. He has made every member of our entire squad look second rate in training with his attacking prowess, but is currently pacing himself to last 80 minutes.
Just about every player in the squad is being assessed for goalkicking ability, nobody really stepping up. Moses groin problem is not as bad as reported.
Simona may not play this weekend against the roorters due to injury, giving Rankin a reprieve.
Still a cohesive tight knit unit with up to 10 players from the squad now attending regular prayer meetings. Do not believe the prophets of gloom and doom with hidden agendas this is now a club prepared to be accountable both on and off the field and all alibis for failure will be withdrawn from next year!
New board has reaffirmed top 4 kpi for next year / minimum 50% win rate remains kpi for this year.
Nothing else credible to add, just rumours, but the facts from where I sit still remain encouraging.
Don't jump at shadows; don't be afraid of the dark.
TT.

Thanks TT.
Now we just hope that Cherrington stays, or at least the precondition is met.
Also hope that JAC's true value is clear and we sign him ASAP.

Mark O'Neill is reviewing entire roster, Dogs have offered Fine same contract terms as he currently gets. Yet again like JAC he's looking for opportunity and now that O'Neill has inserted himself into selections this may be enough to retain him / much like MCK. Players feel they now have a voice when it comes to selections and performance will be rewarded.
On a side note Milone may elect to retire due to ongoing injury, he's also been told that he will no longer be guaranteed selection in NSW Cup side.
You will notice that Taylor now says 'we' when speaking about selections / you will also notice that Mark O'Neill is everywhere - in coaches box; airports; at the side of press conferences; rehab and training. I was initially skeptical about his role, for a coach like Taylor ( who I still don't think is the right fit for this team) this partnership may work as it did for a while with Cleary and Gould. For coaches like Bennett; Bellamy et al this wouldn't be tenable at all.

Re-signing JAC is imperative. We've been crying out for someone in our backline with an X factor besides Tedesco, and this kid has it. If the only obstacle is him wanting an assurance of being in consideration every week then what's the club waiting for. He should be the second picked in our backline every week after Tedesco. If they lose this kid, heads need to role.

Good post.
Hope we can keep JAC.

Gower will obvs replace Halatau, I guess…
Experience and whatnot.

Future looks good.

Thanks for the update TT.Your report that the club only has to offer what i consider to be a reasonable figure and conditions for JAC to stay is positive.
Also it is a plus if Taylor is getting "help"in picking the team over the last few weeks hope it continues.

Interesting, re: Fine & MCK.

Unlucky for Milone though,
If that happens - at least he can say he played NRL, more than once.
Wish him the best.

Thanks again TT and about time someone pulled Taylor into line over selections, they have cost us and some were/are diabolical.
Taylor has done some good things, but his bad things outweigh the good, I am glad we may be able to rescue the JAC to Storm move, and also glad Rankin's time on the wing looks to be ending, lasted way way to long.
Buckets starting to look like a good choice is comforting to know, no JT in 2018 or maybe 2017 is a real winner from my point of view, the players only seem to want to play for him after a really poor effort the week before.
This is not a player coach relationship to get us in to the top 4, but now at least we look like climbing the ladder or at least not going to far backwards.

Good read. Like they way they are managing Sirro it will test his desire and challenge him about where his future lies. Still hope in retaining - JAC excellent news The coaching set up very interesting - dont know what to make of that but certainly suggests that they feel the coach can't be given full responsibility.

David Gower. Surley we can do better then a 31yr old backrower who has spent most ofvhis career playing nsw cup. If thats the case buckets should give up unless he is for nsw cup then its ok signing to provide experience andcwork ethic but i couldnt see him making our top side and with the props we have coming through im not sure hed make the top 30 squad

If the club didn't know what they had with JAC, why the hell did they sign him from the Sharks? Amateur hour.

Great to hear from you TT. A couple of questions, how far off is Teddy? And if JT definitely won't be hear in 2018 are we currently speaking to any coaches?

Interesting. Thanks.
You say JT will definitely not be at WT in 2018\. Seems final and somewhat premature. What if we made the eight this year and top 4 next year? (stranger things have happened) Surely, he would be offered an extension, wouldn't he?

That really is some fascinating insight into Mark O'neill and how he is approaching his role. Like TigerTorch said it is not the sort of hands on approach that someone like Bennett or Bellemy would appreciate. However obviously O'Neill feels it is required here to right the ship.

I think it is good to see O'Neill is asserting some authority if he feels like selection needs a shake up. Looks like he got sick of rubbish like Milone getting picked and Buchanan and now we are rewarding PERFORMANCE. Our culture of a lack of accountability at selections has cost us for years and years in my opinion.

Looks like he has no time for the boys club of mates being picked every week. If this is the start of a cultural change I am all for it. If Taylor won't make the hard calls well done Oneill for demanding it.

Is there a link for this…

Who has or hasn't been selected...?
