Taylor puts broom through Wests Tigers staff

so the bloke in charge of defense….where we let in 230 point in 6 games...that bloke impressed????

Hard to say that without knowing the full story… There's a very good chance Kidwell was just doing what the boss told him. We've all had to do that at work?

Good riddance Blocker. I hope whoever was responsible for hiring him in the first place is no longer involved either.

Maybe not GNR - the article did say " Roach will always be welcome to contribute at Concord Oval ". Hopefully the Tigers will be elsewhere when he is contributing at Concord.

Hopefully with West Harbour.

Deep down I'd say Blocker means well and the players would enjoy having him around … He's just not that smart .

I take your point, however I don't know how well meaning he was trying to be when he pubicly lambasted the clubs captain in the media. What member of any coaching staff does that? Imagine if one of Bellamy or Hasler's assistants did that. He should have been sacked on the spot, its bad enough he lasted till the end of the yr after that. Shows what a circus this place has been, and is hopefully transitioning out of. I know Blocker isn't too bright, but he'd have to be missing a chromazone to think what he was saying about Farah could be spun into a positive light.

Anyone that thought Sironen was there because of jobs for the boys has no clue - he transformed the Balmain juniors to allow players like Woods, Brooks, Moses, Simona to all come through at the same time, and apparently that isn't good enough.

Unfortunately I think his comments about Balmain people (and Wests people for that matter) being wiped from the club are true, and it's a damn shame if you ask me. People wonder why there's a toxic culture at the club, it's because the people that the players respect so much are treated like crap by the management.

People argue till they're blue in the face that they don't want this club to be the Magpies or Balmain, and that WT's need to have its own identity, then complain when people connected with both sides get the flick. Its a step in the right direction having an independent board and a coaching staff that has no affiliation to either side if people truly want this club to have its own identity instead of just saying they do. Actions speak louder than words.

Like others here I'm surprised by the retention of Kidwell - if his first year as defence coach was deemed to be 'impressive' then I'd sure hate to see what 'unimpressive' looked like! Anyway, he deserves another chance I suppose, with a new head coach and support staff in place. I was stoked when we hired him before last season because his previous record at Melbourne was pretty darn good. Who knows, all the destabilizing of the club may have hampered his efforts as well.

Overall, I am happy with Taylor's broom going through the place - definitely a step in the right direction. I still believe that Payten will make a very good first grade coach one day though, but sadly, it will have to be at another club.

NEW Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor has sacked three club legends from his coaching staff in his first week in the job.
>
Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach, Paul Sironen and John Skandalis have been told their services are not required as Taylor and his general manager of football Phil Moss begin a major overhaul of the entire football department.
>
Skandalis has been sacked as the team’s strength and conditioning coach just three days after being awarded the club’s highest honour — life membership.
>
And former champion second-rower Sironen, who now has two sons playing in his old colours, says he is disappointed.
>
“New coach, new football manager and new ideas … there’s nothing I can do about it,” Sironen said, “That’s the direction they are going and I’m one of the casualties.
>
“But I’ll be honest in saying it’s left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.
>
“I’ve got a gut feel that if you’ve got anything to do with the Balmain side of the merger you’ve got a target on you.
>
“Having said that it’s all about results I really hope they can turn things around.”
>
Roach too admitted he was upset by the call after such a long and distinguished career at the club.
>
He launched into the Wests Tigers management and skipper Robbie Farrah recently which obviously didn’t go down well.
>
“But I’ll move on — I’ve got plenty to do,” Roach said.
>
Skandalis, who was awarded life membership at the club’s presentation night a week ago, accepted the decision like the great clubman that he is.
>
He at least has been offered another job.
>
“JT wants to bring in his own team which is understandable,” Skandalis said.
>
“I was a bit disappointed at first but Grant Mayer (CEO) rang me later in the week and is looking to place me in another position at the club.
>
“I’ll always do what’s best for the Wests Tigers.”

Now for the biased divisive view you can always count on Buzz Rothfield…what a Muppet...

Oh and there is only one Wests Tiger legend punted...

If indeed Sironen did make these comments it is poor form, these guys have been here from day one and had a good run ….when finally things change this rubbish is brought out. The reason why there is a toxic culture is posts like this that continually stock the fires for the despots to revel in there toxic views .

Wow, JT has been given full reigns, nice to see. Feel sorry for Siro though, the NYC has been going great for years now.

Sironen was just interviewed on 2gb and said that the under 20,s next year will be a totally part time venture ,all permanent position were made redundant including coach. The football manager is restructuring the whole system so of course there is going to be casualties .

Perhaps they trying to change the culture of Balmain /Wests out of Wests Tigers.
Perhaps he's trying to break up the boys club.
And create his own boys club.
Or perhaps they're just trying to clean it out for Taylor can have a fresh start.
Isn't it up Myers is to let us know what's going on in the progress of "our club"

Agree totally I think those in this forum and outside in the past have been guilty of welcoming people into the JV with previous Wests/Balmain connections such as Leeds,Skandalis,Roach and Humphreys not cause they were the best people for the job but in their hearts it helpt them still keep connection with the past unfortunately this had a detriment on the current and the future as the current team was getting run by B grade amateurs. With Mayer,Moss,Taylor and co in now seems the club is about to go on an upward spiral on and off the field. :sign: :sign: :sign:

Exactly why he shouldn't be anywhere near the club. Alot of the problems at the club stem from stupidity, dumb decision making and stupid infighting. Great to see the club is changing that, by signing people with smarts and inteligence.

"Kidwell has a relationship with Taylor from their time at South Sydney; Kidwell was the Rabbitohs captain when Taylor was the head coach at the foundation club."
There will always be jobs for the boys - just a different lot of boys. As long as they do a good job I couldn't give a rats.

Paul Sirro played the Balmain card,"if you are from Balmain you have a target on your head."
Maybe if you do a good job,you get to go again Paul.

Yep bad move by Sirro to say that… Just what the doctor didn't order....in a way he showed he shouldn't be there by his comment
