Team vs Storm

Why are so many people suggesting we replace the worst player in our NRL team with Herbert, the worst player in a winning KOE team.
Herbert isn't an option if you want improved defence.

Wouldn't mind seeing what Laulili can do at FB
I think we need to play to our strengths.

We have been getting good value from him out of yardage and the same with Turuva.

I think these guys need to stay there.

Herbert in for To'a...To'a was really bad.

KPP should fix up that edge.

If Samuela is out, that is a big loss.

2 hat-tricks scored down our right edge means if we fix that up, we should be in with a chance, but Melbourne in Melbourne is a tough ask...I doubt they lose 7 or 8 in a row.

Maybe this is all a ploy by Benji in order to break the hoodoo in Melb, we come out and deliver an insipid performance, Melbourne were getting pumped up to come out and have a big game against quality opposition, will now think we are back to being the 2024 tigers so lower their guard and we come out and pump them at home............desperately searching for the silver lining😉

Yep, except I think I would have Maka at 19 for Tavana

I have sympathy for both Tavana and Maka. We all have our bad days and I hope they can come back stronger.

We all know Tavana has it in him to be a gun under the high ball - hopefully he can move past it without dwelling too much

Round 2 - First game of the year, remember Taylan was actually picked at right centre.

There is a world that happens again to strengthen the right side but given Samuela out & likely Sukkar moves to left backrow with KPP returning I think Turuva has been our best performing right centre so far, he needs to be on that right side wing or centre.

Mason or Lualilli or... Tavana for fullback for me.

Edges need to be:

Left - Taylan & Makasini
Right - Turuva pending wing or centre. One of Herbert, Skelton or Tavana

I'm thinking against Melbourne I am going Herbert (centre) & Turuva (wing)

Don't expect many changes & nor should there be. A coach needs to show faith in his players. It was one game and could well be a blip on the radar. Most will be given the chance to atone.

I'd expect a change will be To'a out as his performance lacked in all areas (attack, defence & effort), Herbert in. Unless Benji suspects Tavana's confidence is shot, imo he will be shown faith. Tino is a confident kid & didn't lack effort.

KPP will return on the right edge & Sukkar will shift to the left with Samuela likely out.

And ideally a Hope & Latu dummy half rotation pending a backline injury.

It might sound crazy, however is there a chance we play Latu at 7 and Luai 6 with Jock off the bench? only caveat would be if that talk of him playing 13 means he only trained at 13. I'm still bullish on him being our future in the halves and what i have seen from him in glimpses so far this year when he has come on has been crisp in attack and punishing in defense. Its just the kicking game where Jock has shown more.

I like it. Latu has to come in for Hope. Herbert in for turnstile Toa

It's easy to get downcast on the flogging but teams can turn it around in 7 days. Recent examples ...

Knights beat Souths on Sunday after being flogged by Panthers the previous week 12-44.
Cows beat Sharks last week after being insipid against Manly at home the week prior 6-38.
Eels beat Dogs a fortnight ago after being flogged by the Titans the week prior 10-52.

This week is a test for Benji & our player's attitudes. As Benji has said, we are different gravy this year so don't use previous years as examples.

I agree.

At 10-6 up we were the better team. If Taylan gave Luke quick ball he was a chance to score & if Madden kicked to Luke's corner once he split them up the guts we were also a chance.

The late try in the first half hurt but at half time I thought we still have a fair good chance to keep it tight & possibly win.

As soon they scored in the second half heads dropped, errors increased & with only 27% possession it was gonna get messy late as it did with Fatigue.

Just glad it's not a 5 day turnaround.

Benji should be able to get them up for this one on multiple fronts. That performance, Melbourne in Melbourne, History etc...

19. Makasini

I think this is actually quite a good side. Obvious weakness at hooker but why not give Haywood a shot, subbing for Hope? Reluctant to throw Makasini into the cauldron again but who else do we have? Surely but surely Benji will not select Toa or Tavana!

Attard
Turuva
Makasini
May
Lualilli
Luai
Madden
May
Latu
Pole
KPP
Seyfarth
Twal

Hope
Hunt
Sione
Sukkar
Skelton
Bunty

Flush last game, every side will cop one of those and we were due a flat effort.

Your thinking is not crazy and I think either Latu or Javon will be our future 6 but I tend to be bullish about persevering with Madden as a true 7. He doesn't need to be another Andrew Johns or Nathan Cleary, he just needs to straighten the attack and kick well. He's been very good for us this year and with perseverance could get better still.

At close to full strength I would say we would be specials against the Storm, but three of your spine out, plus a real chance big Sam is out…I say it could be another long day
