Tedesco Replacement

I would be moving Nofoluma to the back and bring Koro back in for the rest of the season. Nofo is very safe under the high ball, returns it back at full pace and is a reasonable defender. Koro with all his deficiencies still adds pace and power to the attack.

It's a tough one. Rowe needs more work imho. Maybe the rest of the year in the state cup and a full off season will be good for him.

Part of me says, Moses, but I'm excited by the prospect of Moses and Brooks in the halves and I'm not 100% convinced that Austin is the long term solution at 6\. I like the kid but would need to see more of him at 6\. I think he has performed better at hooker.

Under no circumstances should it be Moltzen, or should we try to manufacture a fullback. It is too vital a position.

Rowe could look great behind Robbie, Brooks and Moses

Unless Rowe learns to tackle & catch the high ball when under pressure hes not gonna look great behind anbody IMO.
Seen enough to believe he definitely is NOT the solution.
Nofo is the standout medium term,& Moltzen under Potters guidance cld be an alternative.
Disappointing but far from the end of the world…

Moltzen is coming back from injury next year.

While obviously having a checkered past with people on this board, the year -off might re-invigorate him and he might come back playing better than ever. :astonished:

Please don't be Rowe.
No matter who we get will be a step backwards from Tedesco. Hopefully Nofoaluma nd Simona can be trialled there over the next few weeks while Tedesco sits out in reserves.

Not everyone at the Wests Tigers is upset at losing one of the game's brightest young prospects.

The kid filling in for the kid who is Canberra-bound at the end of the season was wisely re-signed by the club last year until the end of 2015\. But Kurtis Rowe has intentions on sticking around Concord for a lot longer than that, and he hopes he's shown enough over the past six weeks to prove it.

With James Tedesco announcing a three-year deal with the Raiders on Tuesday, the spotlight now turns onto the 20-year-old Rowe, who has spotted in admirably while Canberra's new signing recovers from an ankle injury suffered against Manly back in Round 5.

"I've felt very fortunate to have six games under my belt now. It's been a big step up from playing state cup at the start of the year and I'm real grateful that I have this opportunity. Hopefully I take it with both hands. I feel like I've been playing well," Rowe told NRL.com.

"It's everything I thought it'd be and more. A lot harder than what I usually played at. You have to be a lot smarter, you have to be a lot faster. But I've been really enjoying it. I've had a lot of support from the boys here. From that first game I played, I've just been eager to play more each week."

Along with James Gavet (hamstring), Dene Halatau (ankle) and Liam Fulton (back), Tedesco is in line to make the trip to Newcastle next Sunday. But Rowe hopes he has given coach Mick Potter enough of a headache to think twice about dropping him back to NSW Cup – and he'll have Tedesco to thank for doing so.

"Teddy's taught me a lot in the role playing fullback in the top grade. It's unfortunate for him with his injuries, but I knew when I had my shot that I just wanted to keep it there. I'll do my best to stay in the team," he said.

Tedesco's decision now means the club turns its attention to whether Rowe, who crossed for 38 tries in 45 games in the under-20s, is their long-term solution at fullback.

Another injured custodian, Tim Moltzen, is still sidelined indefinitely with a knee injured suffered during the pre-season. His contract also expires at the end of next season.

In Rowe's favour is his combination with halfback Luke Brooks. While Tedesco and Brooks showed some exciting on-field chemistry during the Auckland Nines, Rowe had actually spent more time alongside the Tigers' chief playmaker.

"I've played more games playing in the under-20s comp with Brooksy," Rowe said. "I felt a lot more comfortable making my debut playing off Brooksy because we had a good combination happening in the under-20s."

Rowe, who represented Australian Schoolboys in 2011 and the Junior Kiwis in 2013, said he had based his game on Kangaroos fullback Billy Slater.

"I want to be that type of fullback. Billy's the ultimate professional. I look at all the little things he does, like getting to the ball on the full. He's fit and fast," he said.

i've been very impressed with his improvement. i wish we could keep him on the wing but nofo and patty have that covered. i would promote rowe on the wing in case of injury before koro tbh.

teddy's gone but the future is still bright imo.

Its interesting that Siteleki Akaoula has been picked to play in the centres in NSW cup this weekend - could this be a move to free up Simona for a move to fullback?

Moses is currently too small for first grade, but this isn't so much of a problem at fullback, and if I recall correctly, he has played quite a few games there and done well.

Alongside Brooks in the halves at this point in time, teams would target him all day long.

this is out of left field, what about Chris back at fullback, he runs the ball back as hard as any one , Sheens played him at 5/8 , I know without great success but he is a good defender and I think he could give a go, better than rowe.

lawrence is the worst when it comes to high balls. i dont think he's scored or saved any in his career.

and that's not the only problem with him there. pace, playmaking, short kicking game, defense, setting up the defensive line etc. etc. are part of the problem as well.

lawrence's best point is his running game and one on one defense. he runs good lines, runs with power and has a good left arm offload. that's about the only positives he has left and they can mostly be exploited in the backrow.

Lawrence has the turning circle of a freight train… I doubt he has the gas tank either

I don't think anyone thought we would be winning a premiership this year and it was always going to be a building year so I can't really see any point in persisting with a player that won't help our development. While Rowe doesn't seem to be ready for regular first grade yet I think he deserves another decent chance later in the season. I'd give Simona a few weeks as well. While i'm the team will probably want Tedesco selected all it does at the moment is set back the development of another player. Next year we will be a genuine threat and we need to prepare for that.

Longshot, but Kevin Locke if he can get out of his Salford deal.
Hoffman or Inu would be good.

We could keep it in-house and put Simona back there. The poor blokes gotten no ball at all this year and it'd be a definite way to get him more involved. Only problem is that leaves us with an awful centre pairing of Lawrence and Lulia.

IMO if Potter thought Nofoaluma was a genuine option at fullback he'd have put him there instead of bringing Rowe up.

I really believe that Moses will have a big future at fullback. People are critical of his size but is he any smaller than Ben Barba who is not especially known for his tackling?

From what I've seen. Moses looks like a six to and a fill in for full back second. He has one of the best passing games I've seen in a while which wouldn't be as utilized at fb I think. I like idea of simona at fb. Interesting to see where club goes now

Anyone know the status on Lachlan Coote. I reckon he would be a chance to return to Sydney's West.

Simona is our best centre. Mad to put him at fullback.
Especially when we are so light on in the centres.

The more I think about the more I think it should be Rowe next year. He'll be better for this year's experience, bigger and stronger. Better than any other option currently at the club. The alternative is to buy one in.

More chance of Rowe learning to tackle and catch the high ball than Koro learning to defend.
He cannot read the play and never will be able to.

Nofo is too slow and too short for FB
