Tough one for Talia Gibson
🥲

The 21-year-old
🇦🇺
wildcard had 3 match points over Diana Shnaider [23] and was so close to the best win of her career, but ultimately goes down 6-3 5-7 3-6.

👉
There’s many positives for Gibson to take from this tournament, hitting over 80 winners against two quality players (leads all women so far in winners at AO 2026).

Don't want to be a wet blanket but how many decades have we been watching the AO only to witness a capitulation of Aussie players after round 1, it's so annoying, it's like they have been sprayed with the old Pea Beu.

It feels like they are the Wests Tigers of old of the Tennis world, just a sprinkling of standout players over decades compared to the golden era.

Is there not enough money thrown in at junior development.

Global sport, much tougher then NRL to crack the top 100.

Round 2, only 64 players remain, round 3 only 32 players remain, etc etc. You have to have a good game and perform at the best of your ability to have a chance of progressing to the next round.

We're lucky we have demon in the top 10. Players are getting better and better.

Barty would have had a good rivalry with Sabalenka.

It's very competitive yes but it still sucks and so did Barty's early retirement she could have gone on for many more slam titles, was so disappointed when she tossed it in and no sign of a comeback either.
