The best player you've ever seen

Andrew Johns …the guy had it all no doubt and a good kicker to boot , different eras make it difficult but as a full all-round footballer I could not go past Johns

i've never seen him play, but from all accounts peter sterling was a fantastic player.

not going to comment on my 'best player' since i haven't been around for nearly long enough to make that call

Geez ….the butthurt is flowing

Johns was a fantastic player Geo , but I rate him and Sterling equally as good and the fact that Johns took drugs put him a step below him

Half the people who are voting Johns haven't seen Sterling play

Lewis was better than either anyway , he was 29 when he began in the NSWRL he absolutely dominated the BRL for many years

And before you Mexicans bag the BRL , Wynnum would of matched it with any NRL side in the mid to late 80's including the Eels ,Tigers,Raiders and Dogs

I had a quick count on people's opinions.

Andrew Johns: 14
Wally Lewis: 7
Benji Marshall: 3

But Johns is a dope freak and is out

why? they were recreational not performance.

don't see people taking out benji and wally for 'doing drugs' when they have a couple of beers.

Darren Lockyer was a super freak…won gf's, origin series, and dominated the international scene in two different positions over a 16 year career....oh and he also won two golden boots - 1 in each position.

Joey was the most well rounded NRL level player I ever saw and would be in my top 10 origin players ever but not my top 20 at international .

To all you super observant critics..the title of the thread asked for the
Best player you have ever seen, it didn't ask for drug scoffing Numpties or anything of that nature …...

Just pick a player that you think is the best you have seen....no seconds or thirds or teams JUST the best player....

As I said earlier Ray Price....simple one pick .....cheers....

You're entitled to your opinion.
That's why I love this forum.

It would be a toss up between Johns and Mark O'Halloran. Both were exceptionally gifted players, however Johns was able to bring his talent onto the field so he wins.

Rec drugs has nothing to do with footy. Social issue. A third of the league probably do/have taken rec drugs, just the same as other people of the players' ages. You can't give that many boofheads the amount of money they get and expect to play PlayStation all day long, so many will use a few drugs just for kicks or something to do.

Dealing would be another matter though.

If that was the case BB they would of been picked up by the multitude of drugs test these guys randomly are given throughout the entire year

If the NRL is hiding the results (they are probably at risk of a huge compensation claim at some stage ) they are fools

**I think that we have assume that if they test clean , they are clean of social drugs**

Joey never tested positive….

I'm not 100% sure how the social drug testing works

I can't remember the last time a players tested positive for social drugs to be honest

Does the NRL have to release that info and is there any protocol involved ( as in three strikes your out ) ??

Who cares about the drug cheats ….they will be found out...

WHO IS THE BEST PLAYER YOU HAVE EVER SEEN..that is the question.....

Wendell was the last one I remember testing positive for cocaine and before him Willie…

Seriously half the NRL take "recreational" drugs. I never condone drug use but this is taken outside of game day. So I don't know how you call them cheats

Sorry Geo I don't think of ever seen you play .

_Posted using RoarFEED 4.2.0_

Couldn't tackle , couldn't pass either side ,crap under the high ball , slower than Keefy , couldn't kick , watching him read a game was like watching me interpret Cantonese , was seen often with Stephen Dank ,lacked heart , and was a chicken

Other than that he was the greatest footballer I ever saw with my eyes closed

Actually I will go one step further and this is how highly I rate Geo as a footballer , I would pick him 1st for every side that played against the WT's as a captain coach in 2015 and he should be the 1st man picked for NSW in all 3 games come SOO time as their 80 minute man

Don't say I never pump your tyres up Geo

I could have been Immortal …if it wasn't for my serious lack of talent....

Best Player...Arthur Beetson

May not have been flashy or speedy or a kicker but I would pick Arthur Beetson in my team every day, outstanding forward in his time, great presence, leadership and influence on a game.

Prob Lockyer but he played in a team full of champions.

Ellery Hanley was unstoppable in our finals run 1988….

Terry Lamb for his longevity. Should have got two years for knocking Ellery out but.
