Hey crew

I have been thinking about this whole situation and I actually think we are in a better place then we are perceiving.

I think we can all agree that Ivan is the leader we have been looking for. Committed, focused on the big picture and a naturally calm persona. With that in mind he has come to the club at the perfect time.

We currently have minimal players under contract, a buck tonne of money and positive plans for structural change in the future. This allows Cleary to start his rebuild way ahead of schedule. From right now he can target the players he wants, he doesnt really need to cul players for next year or sort out a salary cap as it has been done for him. Essentially giving him a clean slate.

While it will hurt to lose woods and teddy it may actually be a blessing.

For mine I think our future is actually brighter then it's ever been. We just need to sit back and watch it blossom.

My other thought is maybe out focus on the big 4 has been all wrong. I know they are a small part of the team but the truth is we have never amounted to anything with them. There's no doubt they are good players but I'm thinking more and more that they aren't the leaders this club needs and I'm not sure there egos would let them take a back seat to a veteran proven leader.

Anyway curious as to others opinions
 
The small four have talked about wanting to play finals footy and yet they have never guided the tigers to the top 8\. If Teddy and Woods decide to leave, the media will continue to call us a basket case, but in reality it may well be the thing this club needs - i.e. the opportunity to recruit high quality players that are more likely to help us get into the finals.
 
Could not agree more. The big 4 is a media construct, the stats simply do not support the supposed value some are placing on these players

I wouldnt be suprised if the whole big 4 rubbish was created by their management to boost their value. They are good individually here and there but they have never done anything as a group to warrant such a title, where did it come from?

Not sure about it being a blessing if Woods and or Tedesco leaves but it is certainly not all doom and gloom. Assuming Cleary can attract high quality players WT will be in a strong position with the money available to do so.

David Nofoaluma has been flying under the radar in the media. If the NRL make the 2018 salary cap 8.3 million then surely Parra can't fit Moses & Nofoaluma.

I also think that Nofoaluma wants to stay and the club would be stupid to let him go. He tries his heart out every week and plays with energy and enthusiasm. Even when the chips are down he will still do the dirty work and give it his best shot. Off the field, he doesn't get into any trouble and seems as though he has a good attitude (as shown in his tweet).

He has a team-first mentality and is a key signing for 2018.

You're right mate i think. They deserved to have the focus on them, but after a while it wears thin. There are other players here, however, until the appointment of Cleary, it was perception that it was the end of the world if those guys left. I kind of feel like we are in the eye of the cyclone right now, ( thats for our QLD friends) we are seeing blue skys after a very tumultuous time, a little bit of light and calm, some more storm to come. Once that second part of the storm passes, we will all be seeing the light.

Are we going to be winning GF's ? Well they are bloody hard, but at least we'll be in the 8 with a shot.

They are 3/4 of the spine and as such are a pretty important part of the team.We supposedly have kept Brooks but lost Moses; who do we replace him with.

The you say "While it will hurt to lose woods and teddy it may actually be a blessing" - I can't see any blessing in it at all. If they go we have to replace them as well. It is usual to replace someone with a better player - there are no better players off contract.

Think about this - forget Bird, Cronk, Johnson - they won't be coming to the Tigers. Townsend may be an outside chance and then there is Tyrone Roberts - personally I don't think those two are better than Mitchell Moses.

As for Teddy - it will be a step down to Dugan and a further plummet to the next suggestion.
Same with Woods - supposedly we are chasing Matulino and that would be a good move to have Woods, Matulino, Ave and Grant as your four front row players. However if Woods goes we are at best no better off and maybe worse.

You say it could be good to start from scratch and I agree with you "hodgo" but I don't want to start from behind the eight ball.

I think it is imperative we keep Teddy and Woods and moe hell and high water to get Moses to change his mind with offering him the kitchen sink.
 
We offered Moses the kitchen sink….he refused it. His fault.
No way should the club bow down to his wants. One decent game doesn't change much, once we have another loss it will be back to normal in regards to Mitch.

The Raiders were no different Russell in their approach to signing and being knocked back by players. You go fishing you may not get a fish first throw, but hang in there, right tide (Ivan) right bait (MONEY) you will get the bights.

Don't forget, player managers get at least 6%.

Silly boy. He had a $900K per season offer on the table till Cleary took over. All he had to do was sign while Webster was still in charge, which Brooks had the sense to. As soon as Cleary came in he advised the Tigers to withdraw the offer, and the best Moses could then do is an alleged $700K per season from the Eels.

So uncle Isaac's 'professional advice' cost mitch over half a mil over the next three years and forced him to change clubs. This guy may not be the genius he's made out to be.
 
I think something is wrong when you take 900K off the table for Moses and then a few days later the CEO comes out and says your looking at Johnson he will be 900K plus easy on the new cap with his TPA'S over a million so the question is does the coach wants more experience in the halfs and to blow Moses off users the cap as the reason which is fine he had 5 months to sign
Or just wants a cheap half to go with Brooks and money spent elsewhere

Well luckily for us that will be Ivan's decision ..

Because Board an CEO's dabbling in recruitment and retention is what caused the whole mess in the 1st place…

Johnson is a proven performer at international class . Moses wouldn't tie his bootlaces .
