The Cleary effect

The signings will keep rolling out over the coming couple months. Those who are worried need not be.

Brooks now has a halves partner who isn't worried about making the big flashy play and being selfish, he also has a halves partner who will have over 150 games experience GF, finals and origin experience next to him next year as well.

An international prop and origin back rower with a couple more signings to come and it's looking like a well structured roster, something tigers haven't had for what seems like a decade.

Our signings have been good but we need a lot more signings. We need a fullback but we also could do with another prop and another winger. We also need to retain most of our current players to ensure we have depth in the squad.

I feel fairly comfortable we can grab players though. I think it's pretty clear that getting rid of the prima-donnas is leaving us with money to recruit and players are more than happy to come here when we offer decent contracts. I think in the past we've overpaid these guys and other players and we've never had good value from our squad. I can see that changing with Cleary and to be fair the current club management.

The change has been obvious from day one. Little changes on the field have made a big difference and he knows how to talk to the media so we are looking better off it as well. More signings will come in time

Tigers should be hiring you to do PR right now, lots of positives.

I dunno if they would take me back

So you don't actually work for the WT now?…but clearly have a line into the club with all this info you share with us on here

What strikes me most about Cleary, is how calm he is. He never seems flustered and questioned he always has a good response. This place has killed off a few coaches, so its early days, but in Cleary we have a real pro

It's been a few years

Hard to fault so far…Does have an advantage that he wont be judged on results this year given what's transpired...that will change next season..

I like that Ivan has simplified the way we play without drastic changes...The attitude to defence especially even though those cracks are still there...Some back to back wins would be nice getting us back in the hunt...

The attitude in general has been the most pleasing turnaround Geo. No mad panicking when the opposition scores and the scramble defence and edge defence have definitely improved. You can easily see the improvement, and future improvement with an arguably stronger backrow. We just need to ensure Matulino has enough support up front, so another couple of props are definitely required and that's our forward pack set. If we can snare Lolohea this season, then that would be a bonus and Moses can ride the pine for the Eels.

I haven't been paying exact attention, but since Cleary joined have we conceded tries in back-to-back sets? Parramatta game maybe?

Also have we conceded any tries in the 5 minutes either side of halfway?

Those were the top 2 points indicators, for me, for attitude.

Cleary has had a solid first month.

However lets remember most coaches have a honeymoon period of sorts.

Like most have said noticeable small improvements are the most pleasing thing so far.

Nobody expects miracles, but the change has been quicker than I expected.

1)The move towards a slide defence sees our outside back less panicky.
2)The simplification of some roles in the team.
3)Swapping Suli & Kev
4)Getting Sue out of the 2nd row.
5)Getting Ted to lurk around the ruck rather than easily read sweep plays.
6)Increasing Brooks' involvement and making him run more.

I really believe Cleary has told Brooks this is his team and it's time for him to take control.
Since Brooks has been back from injury he looks like the player when he first burst on the screen.
Also moving Idris from left side to right side was a fantastic move before Idris got injured.

Yep, Cleary asked Moses to take more of a back seat, MM said so himself when interviewed after the game last week.

Soooo…. back of the bus for Mitchell Aaron and Teddy with all the naughty kids you reckon..

Yep. And Brooksy sits up front where the teacher can talk with him.

Looking at last game without emotion, perhaps that playing style was MM's idea of stepping back…

The best thing about cleary is hes had 2 years off. Hel be refreshed and have worked out new ideas with more time free.. A few coaches should take a break.
