The crusher tackle

Easy way to eliminate the crusher tackle milking is that you must go off for mandatory assessment akin to that of the HIA. If you return to the field your "free" interchange is then counted. Let's see Parra give up Sivo or Gutherson for 10 minutes to get assessed and throw away an interchange.

i like this

Crusher tackels are really dangerous and shouldnt be taken lightly, but milking them if u feel a small bit of pressure on your neck is beyond a joke especially if u jump up fine straight afterwards

The thing is how to prevent it from happening in the first place?? Once a player turns his back to the defense, maybe coach the players to wrap their arms around the ball carrier (below shoulder level) and apply pressure around that area? Pretty hard to do when you have a split second to make a tackle, though, but like I said, a dose of prevention (and a rule modification, I agree) would help!

The players have to start learning to throw the player to the ground with arms and not body weight. Then apply the force once the player is down.

The problem just now is that players have been coached for some time to hold up a player if possible, which allows another defender to take the legs or waist and dominate the tackle. It's the most reliable way to get a defender onto their back. It also stops quick PTB with semi-voluntary tackles where you make body contact then dive to your front. Tigers used to be aces at this 10 years ago and Cam Murray is today's top proponent.

But with more and more players backing/crouching into tackles, an attempt to try and hold a player upright by default becomes the precursor to the crusher position. Rather, the players need to learn to bring the player to ground either by allowing them to fall or throwing them down (their momentum is going downwards anyway), then covering them as they land. Risk here is increased chance of flop tackles, which everyone will have noticed have almost dried up since the upright-wrestle tactic has been dominating.

Alternative is to throw the attacker over to the side and work the tackle from there. But this puts you at risk of completing the tackle on the ruck side rather than the marker side.
