The Culling

I Read Willow on another Topic name 5 players he would cut at end of year and it started me thinking about who could be cull to better the team

My players to cut
Jacob Miller
Braith Anasta
Tim Moltzen
Joel Reddy
Lote Tuqiri
Matthew Utai
Blake Ayshford
Matthew Bell
Masada Iosefa

It would free up money and make room for players if they are ready like Brooks Simona Seumanufagai Sue and co ….....who would be on your list ?? and are there any good players we could get who are off contract that would come to the west tigers many players the Tigers have gone after have said no to us in the past

The fulltime squad must have 25 players, plus sufficient reserves to play NSW Cup and NYC while covering for injuries in 1st grade.

So if you cut that many players, you either promote from below leaving NSW Cup/NYC with no one and zero depth coverage for any of the 3 grades, or you enter the player market and hope the right players are available at the right price.

So lets say you cut 9 with 8 being out of the fulltime squad (assuming Iosefa is being paid from the 2nd tier)….how do you manage that?

The 5 players i mentioned are all off contract which makes it easy. It becomes a whole harder to offload guys like ayshford and moltzen who are locked up for a couple of years, they need to be paid out unless another club is desperate enough to pay their way.

How about giving Miller a chance. The young bloke has played 4(?) FG games and is now being written off. Lui got longer than that, Pearce got longer than that etc.

Can't cut Bell. He has been very solid. Also can't cut Anasta and Miller - they have hardly played!

That's the upshot of it, replacing a few of these players whom are probably already on close to minimum contract with someone better for relatively the same amount of money is going to be difficult.

At this rate, I'd be letting Lawrence go before Ayshford.

Wouldn't let Lawrence go either. Still young and at the very worst could be dropped to state cup to gain some form/confidence. If we released him A club like Souths/Melbourne would pick him up and people would be saying "why did we let him go."

Ayshford, in my opinion, is just starting to find him form again. Had a very good game against Saints. Just needs to learn how to hold the ball with two hands.

Anasta looks to be coming good in the halves too. At the back end of St George game, he set up a try, and we looked good. We turned into a rabble when he went off

Miller is worth working on too. He's a work in progress. Give him a few weeks or months in reserve grade to find his voice and he'll come good

To quote Einstein "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." That reminds me of the West Tigers…

Many people complain about the team than carn't decide what to keep and what to change i think we could find 25 players for 1st grade

1\. Tedesco
2\. Koroibete
3\. Simona
4\. Lawrence
5\. Nofoaluama
6\. Marshall
7\. Brooks
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Buchanan
11\. Thomson
12\. Pettybourne
13\. Sironen
\
\
14\. Blair
15\. Sauce
16\. BMM
17\. Ava
18 Fulton
19 Nayaravaro
20\. Gavet
21\. Groat
22\. Spence
23\. Brien
24\. Sue
25\. Lovett

Many people say we have talented young players i think thats 25 players dont think i counted any one twice if they can buy 5 or 6 good honest first graders which other clubs seem to find when they want i think this could be the way of the future

Its just a debate about the team

Off that list. I doubt there's anyway Tuqiri, Utai and Iosefa will be staying. Can probably assume they're gone already. Outside of them Reddy's outlook isn't great whilst Moltzen could be an option for a club due to his utility value. Miller probably in the same class due to Brooks. Other than those guys the rest should rightly be staying with us.

Regan, what about offsesaon purchases? Also, unsure if people like lovett and naiyaravaro are in our top 25 salary wise.

Ayshford always looks one of the most likely to make a break, players like Moltzen need to support him more.

I don't understand when people say he should be dropped or culled. Lawrence is the guy to be dropped, not Ayshford. But I am willing to give him some more time on the bench playing 10min stints or something like that

Don't care who goes just want a quality NRL standard real halfback. Until we get one we will go nowhere, you could replace half our team with better players it won't make any difference

Who would you cut from the team for next year ?? or just keep it the same team with the same results ??

I'd cut

Iosefa
Lawrence (put him in NSW cup first and see what happens)
Miller (again, see what happens in NSW Cup)
Utai
Lote
Reddy
Maybe Anasta, but he could be useful next year while Brooks gets ready for FG
Blair

In my opinion Matt Bell has been a good signing for us so I don't understand why people want to cull him.

has been more bang for the money than Blair.
