The Defensive Myth

Why would he.

He rang radio stations to bag past Wests Tigers teams and coaches.

By his own judgements this season could easily be seen as a failure.

As he judged Sheens teams that ran 9th or 10th with poor defence as soft.

Thats what gets me.

Tbh yesterday (in isolation) was more about the completion rate of 50 odd percent.
The defence is obviously a huge issue though. We actually went backwards this year in terms of points against, which is pretty unacceptable.

One of our halves can't tackle. Check.
Our second row is piss weak worst in the comp. No impact in tackles. Check.
Our centres, again. Probably worst edges I've seen. Kev and Simona. Check.

It's clean out time but not much good when we paying out old contracts.
2017 will be much of the same.

Looking at the table, i was surprised to see that we aren't ranked 2nd last like a lot like to claim. There are several teams who have conceded more points than us. Besides our right edge, our defence gets a really bad rap imo.

Just an update for GNR,
We are now safely back in the comfy position of being the second Worst defence in the NRL ,
What would we do without The Knights.

Probably the same thing you usually do.

Id safely say both our halves cant tackle.Id even go as far as saying that Moses is the major reason our right hand side is so bad.

You're loving it aren't you

Here's hoping you follow Robbie to Souths

I'm not sure that there's much that any coach can do about the defence. Having watched how it's gone down for a long time, coaching staff changes, defensive focus plans, etc, I have a nagging suspicion that the problem is deeper. Tigers may have a promotion/recruitment blind spot. Is it possible that the club, for one reason or another, is placing other attributes as a priority and neglects defensive ability? If you end up, season after season with too many players who either can't defend, or aren't hungry tacklers, there's really not much you can do, short of going back to square one and doing nothing but tackling/defence at training all season… and with some players, even that won't do it. Once you get to the age and level that these guys are at and you haven't developed good defensive attributes, it's too late. Perhaps the club needs to put defence of prospective players on a higher priority, even if flashy attacking skills takes a back seat? At least until the pattern is broken and the culture changes?

The worst centres and backrowers defesively in the comp are being paired with him…
do i need to say any more

Can't single out players after 52 -10 loss the whole team and the coach are answerable to that.
The mistake rate was unacceptable and while we were completely out muscled the lack of committment and focus is as much a coaching issue as it is an attitude issue.

Oh that explains why he rushes up 3 to 4 times a game. How many tries did he let in yesterday? Rushing up out of the line and tackling no one. Sounding like your mate JT, no accountability.

I think we MUST make defense our priority… They say defense is all about attitude... We need to become a club that prides itself on stopping tries.... Not being a club that can sometimes score 6 when they score 4
We need to have a goal of conceding no more than 1 try per half.... Much easier to score 3 when you keep them to two

They should all be shown highlights of Wayne Pearce's technique.
Not many got an offload away when he hit them one on one.

They are all taught to go high and wrap the ball up, even the little guys. If there aren't at least 2 in the tackle then there is nearly always a tackle bust or an offload.

I yearn for a time when we have a solid defense for a full 80 minutes in most games.
I can wish can't I?

Which is the head coachs role to get his players up for a game with the right attitude. I didnt think we would win yesterday, but to be down 30-4 at halftime. To then lose the second half aswell. If JT couldnt get them up for this game, what chance do we have. If we were happy to cut our loses with farah($750k), JT will cost us a fraction of that if he "really" is contracted next year.
