The Evolution of Benji

Still got the 'no-look' and dancing feet but has added patience, direction, aggressive defence, a deadly kicking game complete with killer 'curve' grubbers and last but not least accurate goal kicking to his arsenal.

IMO Marshall is now the complete rugby league player.

His move to the #7 is a master stroke!

Add Sirro by his side and we may yet see the best of Benji…!

I think this has been discussed on here a couple of times but I agree. Benji is much better as an organising type player than an ad lib running 6.

Credit should go to Sheens and Benji.

After the debacle of the last 7 mins vs Souths I thought last nights type of performance was beyond Benj. But his last 3 games vs Warriors,Cowboys and Raiders have been Lockyer or Thurston like. A new level for him.

He has definately developed as a player. Benji 2012 seems a much more mature player who can lead a team around. These last few weeks in particular.

There was interesting point made in commentary against the Cowboys. In the second half, there was a mini-break made by Benji down the right touchline about 10m out of the NQ line, and he tried to pass it to Ryan and it went over the sideline.

Phil Gould was so surprised, he said "There were times in the past Benji wouldn't have even considered passing, would have run or stepped over for sure". I think we see a much more generous Benji these days, he isn't doing it all himself but creating opportunities for his team mates to score.

In what universe? I do admit he is showing signs that he may end up that way but a couple of games isn't enough to convince me of that just yet.

In this one. I agree there is a while to go however his best performances this year have been based upon solid play rather than flashy play.

Yeah no doubt this year he has changed his approach. He led us around last night perfectly. I hope he doesn't fully give up on his running game because he is the leagues most destructive attacking weapon. If he can stay on his current path yet throw in the Razzle occasionally to keep defence guessing, then he will reach his potential.

I am so stoked that Benji is maturing into the total package ..I was doubting that the full potential was never going to be realized. But now I think Benji can become one of the greats of the game ,he has settled down and is focusing and I feel a lot of this is due to his personel life which obviously moving in a positive manner.

I never wanted him moved from 5/8 in the first place. He is one of the greatest 5/8 ever, so why mess with a good thing?

But I was wrong, Benji controlled the last two weeks and was phenomenal. If he keeps this up he might be the premier halfback going around.

I don't want to get ahead of myself but I agree with Snake (above), Benji could go down as a great.

I am hetrosexual, but I love Benji.

I agree with hellman its to early to judge his performance as an organiser i personally think he is a 6\. Yeah he was great yesterday but could marshall keep his cool against top opponents or games where we arr under heavy pressure to win eg semis etc.??? I dont think he is, his naturally a flamboyant style player and i love it and he should have someone else controlling the game.

I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, maybe even next season. But the signs are good, with the extra experience he has now compared to when the experiment was first tried, he certainly has a calmer head on his shoulders.

I think his biggest improvement this season has been his kicking game. I guess coming from a touch footy background where kicking isn't as important, that was one area of his game that didn't seem to come as naturally to him, well from my point of view anyway.

His first game with 7 on his back was terrible.
While I agree with most of the talk about maturity and the like, I have to add his defense into the argument.

Some of the tackles he is pulling off now a days is something I couldn't have imagined in the early days.

I think his late success at 7 can also be put down to having a great organising 9 in Farrah, he looks best with some width when Farah plays first receiver.

Oh and I should add, he is the complete player for this club, great role model, great marketing object.

The club would be poorer with our him on and off field.

I would love to know how many jersey, new fans and gate receipts could be put down to just that one man

no one man is bigger than the team but I would have to say the majority of the above would be due to one B. Marshall

one game, and people think he's the perfect 7\. he has to do it very consistently. iirc, lui, farah and him produced one of the best kicking game last year against the raiders. then he never did it again. you can't turn into a perfect 7 over night.

I think this year will be the one where he matures an becomes the steady force we need
