The future is Liddle

@GNR4LIFE likewise don't want to see him fail. But let's be honest he is still just potential after 3 years.
The weird thing is people want him promoted because he is younger than the incumbent.
Really our juniors have to show something other than potential. I feel like we are always waiting for the next big thing. Waiting and waiting.

Exactly how I feel Kiwi. The kid can play, but he has problems with staying fit. I don't want to be be waiting on him perpetually to come good from years of injury.

So the only way to see if he can handle it is if he's playing 30, 40, 50 mins a game and then 80 towards the end of the season.

@TIGERAURA Farah was a great player, now he just a good one. Liddles service is so much better.

Your judging the guy on 20 mins, while the roosters were in third gear...

Farah brings experience and patience to the no hopers we have around him

Robbie's service from dummy half slows as the game proceeds. He was brilliant in the first couple of rounds but, I feel his age is showing now and he is best suited to a shorter stint at full energy. I think his service is stifling our attacking flair, particularly if chasing points; we look ponderous and predictable. Liddle will get us on the front foot with his service and will create more attacking opportunities.

We would pretty much be on zero points this season if Farah wasn't playing for us.

@LCA-V2 We need Liddle. He has the ability to get out of dummy half and create opportunities a lot better than Robbie does. I think his defence is just as good as well if not better.

Robbie can still offer a lot. He is a very creative and skillful dummy half.

We can probably play both but that depends if Liddle can prove he can play regularly throughout the season and long minutes. I think we need Liddle and another dummy half. Robbie can fill that support role.

Liddle has always had ability in attack but he's not in the same world as Farah defensively. Farah makes 40 odd tackles every game week in and week out at NRL level.

I think we can afford carrying two hookers in our 17. Because we can get big minutes from Twal and our second rowers. Might be a good plan to start Liddle at some stage and get our skipper to follow his darts out of dummy half especially when teams are tiring. Don’t think we can carry him by himself as 80 might be out of the question.

I get it but I also see him being targeted and they roll over the top of him. I reckon Liddle can defend just as well.

Yeah that's fair enough. Madge is the expert at the end of the day, I guess I just feel like we're waiting on Liddle to break down again. Either way we need a capable back up hooker for next year, and stocks are pretty thin.

The other thing about Liddle - he's very much in the Damien Cook mould, fast and darting. Cook does all his damage with his penetrating runs, it makes oppositions nervous and then frees up his service, because the markers and ruck focus on him not the runner. Defences also tend not to swarm him because he is so evasive - defence against evasive is straight line.

And Cook is still the form hooker in the comp, so that style suits the current flow of matches and refereeing style.

@Cultured_Bogan waiting on him to break again? What are you talking about... remember benji’s shoulder when he was even 24-25 lol. Does that say one cannot help the team?

@DieHarder Marshall had a shoulder op at the end of 04 won a premiership then had another 2. That's the difference Marshall had done something during the shoulder thing. Liddle still is trying to make his way. It is different even for the player.
And let's be honest Marshall is not the best example of a consistent first grader

@jirskyr Agree Jirskyr has more upside than downside for me.

Only lacks a good kicking game - now his mentor (he is, isn't he?) has a good kicking game - why isn't he teaching him?

People say we won't make the 8 with without Farah - I say we won't make it without Liddle.

I'll add that Cook was a fringe 1st Grader till he was what 26-27 years old..Liddle is 22..yes he needs to stay on the field..for me I'd rather that be for us because as sure as night follows when he gets himself right I don't want another Club reaping the benefit..yes I'm looking at the Rorters...

Apart from Brailey at the sharks, I can’t think of too many long term hookers that have debuted young and avoided injury.

The problem with blooding young hookers in the modern game is you don’t know if you will get a Brailey or Mahoney, or a Kaysa Pritchard, Cameron King type

Kiwi had already covered off on the point I was going to make. He'd already won a premiership before needing recurrent surgeries. And he was a prodigy.

And we mustn’t forget that Liddle is in the same bracket and maybe even more hyped for his match quality output than a young Luke Brooks, seems to have that knowledge of exactly when to go and when not to. The problem with ‘05 if anything was that we had a small/underrated forward pack but the backs were TOO slick, if he couldn’t deliver in his first four years in grade do you think coach would’ve shipped him?

Maybe, in 2019 it is our somewhat rudderless attack and at times poor game management that is costing us and the man who Madge clearly still holds high hopes for in changing that is Jacob Liddle. We don’t need another benj right now and if a similar situation happened with someone not seen as an attacking player or pertinent to the team (the opposite of what happened with all of Ted’s early career injuries) then as good, loyal supporting fans we should keep Le faith purely based off the fact that he may indeed be what’s best for our future.

You can’t possibly know yet and as far as hooker injuries are concerned; quite regular
