So I'm hearing a few contrary reports re. Wests Tigers' security as a club.

On one hand, we're mentioned as one of the more vulnerable clubs. That this crisis may cause us to fold or have to relocate.
On the other hand, I hear we are one of the few clubs that has made a profit in recent years, that we haven't stood down employees and that we are in safe hands.

Which is it? Or does nobody really know? And how do we stand compared to other clubs?

I had a dig through the financial statements the other day and Ashfield leagues has around $50 million in assets (which will take a hit, but still substantial) and the Wests Tigers as a club, have been running at pretty much break-even, suggesting lower than average overheads.

Yes, the leagues clubs will have to shut for a period of time. But I can't see it eroding all their assets. Hopefully, they've got some fairly liquid ones (i.e. Cash) which will get them through this period.

Plus, we also have some heavy financial backers with Harry and Lee that can tip in a bit of cash.

I think we'll be fine.

The interesting one is uncle nick at the Roosters. His fortune has been absolutely smashed recently. His stock, APE, has lost 80% of it's value in the last few months. He's still a rich man, but he'll be hurting.

Roosters have Politis and a rich league's club. Anyone hoping they won't make it will be disappointed.

Spoiler Text

:::

Politis will have no problem saving the Roosters. He's that loaded, the club is just a hobbie for him.

I'm on Harry's side here - people keep saying he is a penny pincher and not a true WT fan etc.

I don't think he wants to help anymore period. Harry was a Balmain Tigers Fan up to his eyeballs, I think he continued his support over to the WT because Balmain were still part of it. Of late they are just about gone, and have no real say anyway.

When the new Balmain Leagues Club was proposed with the Elias fiasco - Harry was not asked to participate or even tender. If he had been the developer, I think it would have been built years ago, the Leagues Club would have been still operating and all would have been good with the world. But NO, BB cut him out of it all together. I think Harry has a real bad taste in his mouth.

If I was him, I wouldn't have even kicked the tin for the kitchen.

Over to you Lee - you are all we have.

Simply put if you don't have a private backer and are relying on a leagues club support you are in strife

I can't say this enough ......we need Harry Triguboff bad ...real bad

Manly and Titans are privately owned and would say they are in dire straits.

Depending on their debt levels and how far Penn or Frizzell are prepared to dig into their pockets

I get the feeling Harry would love to be remembered for truly saving his WT's in his twilight years

I don't get the Harry T saviour posts..

I'd be looking more at Lee Hagipantelis....we are in a good position..

Lee is the Baby of our club in terms of support when you compare him to Harry
But I would be happy with both to have a stake in our club

Lee has been around a lot longer than you think..

Whats Lee's net worth Geo ??

Could be even cover an 8-9 million debt if needed

Maybe, but i would rather be in our position financially backed by Wests Ashfield than Manly backed by Penn. Another interesting point is no one has mentioned Newcastle. They too are only backed by a leagues club albeit a big group but nevertheless just another registered club.

Private ownership and Newcastle's demise under Tinkler are synonymous in my mind.

It depends on how much pain the owner are prepared to wear

Tinkler or Clive Palmer types are really fair weather fans

People like Darryl Kelly , Rebecca Frizzell , The Penn family and the NZ owner seem made of sterner stuff

You're only ever a death, bankruptcy, liquidation or a plain old change of heart away from being chucked. I used to think it was a good model but not so much now. Much rather have an interested party who has decades of history with the club.

All the talk about Harry is this just wishful thinking or has something been rumoured ?

Just my opinion Muffstar , but when you get his age you want to be remembered for something ....I think this would be that something he would like

He has stated in the past that he’ll always be there for the club if it needed him

Maybe if we are about to go belly up he would buy it for next to nothing then just back the club as the club is on the rise

I think for Harry T to chip in blokes like Mike Bailey etc would have to keep well away
With the stepping back remember WT wanted to use him as a third party but nrl told him he was too close to club re meriton.

Don't think he'd buy in ....Just a one off bail out to get the club back on its feet

Ability to raise funds ..just ring his mate Nick for a round or 2 of Golf..

It is still far to early to say who is and who isn't going to survive once this CV is over life will return back to some type of normality people will go back to what they were doing pre CV working, socialising, drinking out eating out watching sport some will take a short term hit and some a long term hit life will go on WT'S will finish above 9th place with Wests Ashfield behind WT'S we will survive

Let’s hope sooner rather than later

I heard Buzz Grogfield being interviewed and I guessed before he even started that WT would be a club in trouble but surprisingly (cough cough), Cronulla were the actually one of the safest teams on his list. He also said Panthers and Eels would be fine.

I think that says it all

Mate he has zero links to the club , so any info he has is either extremely outdated (highly likely) , completely agenda driven (I think we will this a given), or just plain wrong / made up.

Of course he will be saying the sharks are safe , but if the NRL are serious they should be first to go . They have to be bailed out every 5-10 years , are geographically pigeon holed by the ocean , dragons , Illawarra and West’s junior footprints .
A 4-5 team Sydney model has to be the ultimate goal . Roosters Should be the real target , but unless uncle nick declares bankruptcy, that’s not happening.
