The halves problem

There will be such a strong temptation to play Latu if fit but I think Benji needs to resist. The flight, then a cold and rainy game against that NZ pack is not the way to ease an injury prone young guy back into first grade.

7) Madden
6) An inanimate carbon rod or Mason
There was a time when they used to just play a big defensive body or a run first half at 6 if the first choice halves were down.

I think defence is too important in this game to risk Mason. The Warriors are too big.

Mason the known quantity I suppose.

Tough assignment for a guy like Andrews who looked good in the trials and is a big body. I thought Starford To'a was really strong defensively last year and can be a run first 6, might be an option.

Leka Halasima will go looking for Mason unless Mason takes the field with a elephant gun he's in trouble

I would play Andrews at 6 give him a taste he's 19 we had no problem with Galvin or Mason playing and Andrews is a bigger body has great vision can step and throw a great cut out ball and kicks goals

If Latu is physically ok with the shoulder and just needs match fitness play him 20 minutes or till he blows a lung

Is Andrew’s a first choice goal kicker or just a backup like Api ?

Andrews would be my 1st pick for number 6 this weekend .. yes he is a goal kicker as well ... but that duty will be given to Madden as 1st choice kicker ( then Api then Andrews)

We have to use our tall timbers (twin back rowers - KPP and S. Fainu) running out wide into holes .. and Andrews has great vision for this assignment.

This game is going to be tuff , it would have been tuff with AD and Luai in but with them out it’s much harder , We should not play any injured players like Latu, if he needs a couple more weeks or come in via cup we should do that , play fit players in position so we give our team a chance , Play a centre at centre , play jock in his best spot , if Andrew’s is next up play him it’s experience he needs , I would run Macca on left wing same as he played against panthers and Skelton on right , Hebert and Turuva in the middle , Bunty is a must as it’s his old club and has a point to prove , he could be the difference as he was not wanted by warriors , muscle up take them head on and wear them down , we have strike on edges with Sam F and KPP. Use them , long kicks to corners and pin them down , make them work to get out of their red zone , just keep turning them around , I don’t care if we win 8-6 turn them around and wear them down , just my rant .
A good rant. Sounds logical to me. If only logic got a run.

Any update from the club?

The way Luai landed, it looked like a PCL so 4 weeks at least I think.

Douehi with R hamstring (his kicking leg) probably looks like 4 weeks as well, and then gradual progression into kicking.

With L Fainu due back in 3 weeks or so, I'd definitely have Mason at 5/8 and Madden at halfback.

You need to keep Api at hooker, he's way too valuable there and I wouldn't trust him to defend 2 in, he has lost the lateral movement to defend there for 80 minutes.

Should AD just be suffering from cramp...(I heard this on one of the shows on Sunday) would you play him at 7 with Madden at 6? I know it goes against the grain, however Madden is an out and out 7 and AD in my eyes is more of a 6 than a 7 so personally I would put AD at 6 and Madden at 7... Madden steers the ship and is the dominant kicker and AD chimes in when something is on or we need a spiral bomb. Having said all that should AD be out I would immediately switch to Madden/Andrews 7 and 6. They have had reps in training and the trials in those positions and actually looked good as a combo...anything else would be too much of a risk.

Definitely didn't look like cramps to me, and even if it was just intense cramps, I'd prefer he sit out a week. It's a long season ahead and we have him for 3 years, we need to manage him for 3 years, not just a few weeks.

The ideal scenario would be he has a week off, Jock and Latu light it up in the halves, and AD spends the rest of the year at right centre.
