The Hooter

This won't be popular with many….it's sad when at times you have to think "should I post this...many will freak out"

But....has Balmain financial woes almost cost WTS on field?

Apparently the hooter failed. .The equipment is old and faulty, it didn't activate automatically as the clock reached 00:00...it had to be manually activated, hence the delay.

Will the club come out and clarify what went wrong?
We'll probably hope it all goes away....Some don't like the truth

I'd like to know exactly what happened. ..thankfully this didn't cost us but it could've.

Even if the hooter didn't sound, i would have thought one if the main jobs of the refs is to know when to stop friggen playing :/

The ground is owned by the council, so I would assume they would be responsible for the maintenance. But even so, you would think WT would ensure it was operational.

It didn't cost us the game. The for and against difference is however the difference between 3rd and 5th the way the table stands now.
Hopefully it's not an important difference coming in to the finals.

Gus kind of implied that it was due to the facilities. He didn't wanna come out and say it though, cos that would go against his constant selling of LO as the mecca

It was a different display from last year so they must have had some money to change it, for whatever reason it was changed.

Some one wrote this on the LU forum and i think it is 100% right He said that if it was our responsibility to control the hooter then if we where behind in a game the hooter would go off late and if we we're in front then the hooter would go off early.

Exactly so!

Tigersman.
The clock is visible
to everyone…The hooters at all grounds
are supposed to sound automatically
when the clock reaches 00:00.
Makes your theory a bit difficult to achieve

I was under the impression that the siren was not an official timekeeper anyway - basically it's there for the fans, but the refs are the actual arbiters of timekeeping. In other words, if the refs are saying they didn't call half-time because the siren didn't go off then they're idiots.

Secondly, it's a massive overreaction to make this something to do with the Balmain situation. Leichhardt Oval has been decrepit for years, with malfunctioning PA system and on and on. However, Leichhardt Council owns it and it's their responsibility to maintain it (or not). All the Tigers can do is ask to have things fixed with, presumably, the ultimate 'threat' of not playing there any more. Since the council has no intention of spending any more money on the ground than it absolutely has to and would presumably be more than happy if the Tigers went away completely (as long as they could claim it wasn't their fault) then the club is pretty much stuck with diabolical facilities.

Shouldn't the manual override be within arms reach of (for eg) of the scoreboard attendant which would of meant if he was paying attention pushed at worst 2-3 seconds later

Again if anyone was at the game , did they hear the siren and how much later did it sound ??

I played the sound up on full bore with the headset on and can't even hear the siren from the TV coverage

You'd think the club would ensure it's functional, but yeah since the ground is maintained by the council and they're supposedly "behind" WT they'd ensure the equipment functions correctly and doesn't cost their team a game.

You gotta play to the whistle. Thats it. No exceptions. We stuffed up.

100% Correct

Good on Robbie trying to get some form of advantage, but after watching the game twice mow, he sounded silly arguing in the end.

The Referee has always been the official time piece!

It was just pure frustration Watto on Farahs behalf

The hooter is just a guide for the referees and to a lesser extent the fans

Maybe we go back to the old days when the clock stops with 5 to go

Well it has been functional for the past 30 years at least…

The siren went off about 3-4 seconds after it should have. I was at the opposite end of the ground and could hear it clearly. Problem was the Manly player was tackled as the clock reached zero, that extra few seconds meant he head played the ball by the time the siren went off and so the refs played on. If it went before he played it they would have called time.

For and against means little right now. We have more than enough time to make up for an extra 6 points come the finals.

I don't understand.

If the ref calls last tackle and the player says sorry I didn't hear you ref- does that mean it's not last tackle anymore?

This situation was easily fixable. Yeh you gotta play to the whistle and tigers effed up but the on field idiot could've easily asked the man upstairs if tHE PTB occurred before or after the clock went 0.

Same situation as last year with the sharks scoring on the last tackle. Refs are bound to screw up thats why there is a man upstairs- if you're unsure then ask him ffs. They can know whether the toe touched the sideline but they can't get this right? WATTA joke.

As I said before it is a different clock to past years for whatever reason.

I do agree with your timings. I was in the stand, saw it at 0.00 and waited for siren which was delayed a few seconds.
