The Hype around Moltzen

Does anyone have the same concerns as I do in regards to the hype surrounding Moltzens return.
Whenever you read a preview on The Tigers chances this season they make special mention of Moltzens return. I personally believe its a bit over the top. I think he has super potential but he has hardly played a consistent year of NRL. He's had some memorable games and magic moments but I think this hype is a bit premature, expecially when he hasn't really forged a permanent position in the starting 13.
I just hope he can ease his way back in without feeling the pressure. I know he probably a bit underdone so the bench is a good start for him but I tend to think Sheens selection of him there will hopefully reduce the pressure on him.

By the way, is it just me or has he bulked up consideribly? The photo with him sporting the new Hyundai guernsey on the official website had me thinking he was Mitch Brown. He looks on par with Lawrence in that pic. Extra size will definatley help if he gets a run at fullback.

If there's hype around Moltzen then there's the same hype around Lui

Moltzen scored or assisted in something like 28 tries in 2009, hardly a small feat

I think its more that we didnt buy anyone and you gotta fill the preview with something, moltzen provides something for them to speculate about.
Not that im not pumped for his return cos i am he provides great support play off the back of benji and there combo is a pleasure to watch at times.

I don't believe there is any hype as such regarding his return. He has already proven he is a great half and has played enough games to back it up. The results speak for themselves.

Even if Lui cements himself as the starting #7, Moltzen will be there in some capacity (in what capacity I don't know,) and I wouldn't be surprised if Sheens even uses Moltzen to change the team dynamic if we can't match teams (in terms of structured football.)

not sure about all the hype i think its deserved hes a talent every time ive seen him play hes impressed me one way or another …...havent he and benji got a perfect strike rate when playing in the halves?

Moltz will shine in 2011…just hope he doesn't end up like Halatau.....The man Sheens never really found a position for....something thells me we willl see him in the halves at some stage this year.....

I think they were talking him up more last year than 2011…. I can understand the excitment around Moltzen, as I go to the edge of my seat everytime he goes to the line. He just offers pure excitement in attack when he runs the football...

There is definately no more hype than other young footballers who have huge potential. He is only in the same league as a Daniel Mortimer and Wade Graham.... All 3 will play alot of Rugby League over the next 10 years, but they are a long way off being superstars yet!!!

Something people need to remember that there was a lot of talk early on about playing Moltzen off bench in State of Origin last year . The guy can play but again I will reiterate . Don't expect to see the 2009-2010 version of Tim for a little while yet He is going to need to get confidence in battle conditions that when he does the exact same thing that ruptured the ACL originally that it won't happen again and that will take time

28 😕
i don't know who you got that from, but i would suggest you get your stats from someone else.
you actually prove tooths point.you have overrated his production by 47%.

he had 19 and that is by giving him an assist just for touching the ball when the real work was done inside.
one example is giving moltzen the try assist against the roosters after benji throws the behind the back pass.
while i counted it,i wouldn't class moltzens work as a try assist.not a fan of the try assist stat.

i think he is a first grader, but not at the level i see given by some.
needs to develop a passing game to go to the next level, especially in the halves.

Iam worried about all the hype we are getting in general. Last year it was Parra getting all the hype as "the team most likley" and we all know what happened to them. I like the under dog tag and sneak under the radar

Ur right it's far too high a number. I don't have access to stats so happy to be corrected.

But the argument still carries that he was heavily involved in many scoring plays in 09.

Now the tigers team back then was a hell of a lot different to the one in 2010 so it's unfair to base the argument based entirely on that fact alone. However his talent certainly shouldn't underestimated, as was the notion that was questioned by the OP.

Anyway, best of luck to the kid. He's still got to get out there first!

I think that the wraps on Moltzen have been fair and far from over the top. He will make a difference to our side without doubt imo, people have not being going over the top.
This time last year Benji predicted he would be the origin benchie! so the wraps have somewhat subdued this year if anything.
I better declare my bias, he is one of my favourites!

He's a half and they often get more than their share of press.
He is big news as he is or was seen as the answer to our halves problem since Prince left and the Morris debacle, that and the fact he partners Benji - or was going to….I guess it attracts journos, he does have talent as well but imo he hasnt shown based on talent alone what the raps he get in the press equal.
Same on here.....he is golden boy here, everyone loves him, he can do no worong, yet other players seem to be hated because of where there from or whatever other petty reason

Lui > Moltzen

On another note: On the footy shows last night they said we have NO GAINS.
Matt Utai !?

Moltz needs to relax and work himself back in slowly.

Yep and so do his fans. Im prepared to give Moltz the entire year. Im expecting more from him next year and if he can give us good value this year well ill consider that a bonus.
