Whatever the reasoning behind that selection, it was proved to be incorrect. Lawrence was, as predicted by people on this forum who are not professionals but nonetheless astute judges, completely ineffectual as 5/8\. The whole team suffered as a result. Did we have more than 2 backline movements in the entire game? Crazy stuff.

Lawrence is a specialist centre. He runs lines and angles, and looks for holes. He's not a distributor. His versatility extends no further than playing right centre.

that is a massive statement.. he is well off the mark at the moment.. and he is too much of a structured player that mitigates risk wherever possible… halves and five eights need to have a risk element to their game..

i would… id have marshall there before lawrence... i dont think chris can 'chime' like the good fullbacks.

After reading all the responses, and it's something that hasn't been brought up so far. I'm starting to believe he did it to be less disruptive to the team.

As crazy as that sounds, when Ayshford was being used as the utility and he came on, there was a massive reshuffle in the team.

Reddy, Lawrence, Ryan, were all given stints in the forwards.

Lawrence was also pushed to five-eighth and Humble or Fulton pushed to hooker.

Sometimes due to injuries but not always.

Putting Humble as the utility makes sense as you can keep avoid a reshuffle. Although, Humble probably has a better brain when it comes to making the "half/five-eighth" calls. But Humble is a much better choice for utility then Ayshford right now.
