The Potter Plan

Every game is important but this will tell us a lot about the Potter plan. Last year Sheen's attack plan A, B and C were "give it to Benji" and when it didn't happen we went nowhere. Now he is out for a few, Koro is yet to return and our attack looks pedestrian on paper.

Enter Anasta, who will be part of the plan judging by last week. Whether the new halves pairing involves Miller to 7 or Sironen into 6 probably doesn't matter that much because all of a sudden we have a new senior half who seems prepared to take his opportunity.

So it will be interesting to see where Potter/Farah/Anasta takes the team.

Or is their another attacking factor I am missing?

I agree,

I think of tedesco is at fullback we have a different style as well, a hard running but skillful fullback, who offers a hell of a lot more then molten as far as attack is concerned.

This year how many direct tries can you say have been of moltzens brilliance alone?

Moltzens has played well all year, but James will offer something entirely in Attack.

You just have to watch some of his first div performances this year.

According to the press this morning, Friday, Potter still does not know who is playing 5/8 and is even considering Fulton..is he serious ? I know it is only early in his career here..but he is a bit of a worry already,

I think Curtis is the more creative of the two and his defence is better so I hope he gets the nod.

In saying this, I also think we look better with Teddy at the back, but Moltzen does not deserve to be dropped.

Considering all our injuries, it is a nice problem to have isn't it.

With the options available theres no way he should be considering Fulton. But maybe thats a sign he realises how much more effective we were with a bigger pack.

But wait ..he has a backrower at half and considering another, slower one , at 5/8..!

If Potter picks Fulton at 6 he is obviously going to try and out defend the Saints

One issue with that plan ,we have a centre who Mick Weyman could run around and a fullback who showed us he has lost his confidence under the high ball

If what Royce has said is true ,I think we may see Brooks

How long is Potter going to select the same players who did not perform last year and have not done much better this year. It a bit like a Sheens team..harder to get out of..than get in to..

I dont mind keeping Anasta at Half…and have Sirro in at 6....they will be the biggest halves in the comp by a mile...I noticed Potter switched teddy and Motzen around for a while last week....I expect to see more of this on Sunday....

Thought this was about game plans, not selections.

Both go hand in hand Ink

Pick a particular side for a particular game plan

I think we need a defensive forward pack with some flash around the halves that can create a few tries

I don't think we can outdefend the Stains

i think we have a VERYYY enthusiastic pack atm with all the young guns.

i can definitely see a lot of hole running and decoys througout the game from us- something we lacked last season.

there is no stability in our spine whatsoever this year- same as last year… i dont see a point in forming combinations, set plays etc. unless it's with farah and the forwards.

we need to dish it up through the middle and kick it in the corners if it doesnt get a result and wait for reddy or teddy to get one down for us

Fulton isn't playing , so you can rule that one out. Sirro would be my choice but then I want to see Teddy at fullback so I wouldn't mind Moltzen in the halves. Miller needs more time in Reggies.

I'm glad we have that luxury.

I know we shouldnt focus too much on the opposition and what they'll do…you always hear players say 'we're not worrying too much about what they'll do...more concentrating on our jobs'...that seems to be the way things are done.

Every knows what melb do....shutting it downs another thing and we nearly did that last week.
Saints on the other hand have been playing fairly ad lib the last two weeks...the structured stuff didnt seem to be working and they now look like theyre just playing whats in front of them

I dont have a plan, just hold the ball and kick well...defend like last week and we in with a great shot

Thats the biggest laugh of all time when players say "we are just worrying about ourselves "

If that is the case why do the coaches watch hours upon hours of the opposition games to get a game plan to attack the weaknesses of the other team

there needs to be an attacking plan… we have struggled in opp 20 most times lately. and it needs to be with forwards charging on to the ball, running decoys etc.

obviously the run hard kick hard chase hard is a must.. it's not really a game plan, as you said. but since, our backs arent firing, no half stability.. we need to attack with our forwards, that should be the game plan.

What we need to do is define the attacking options we have, especially within the opp. 20.
Obviously rucking it hard with the forwards is our go-forward as well as kicking early in sets to force an in-goal return
But we need some structured plays within the 20 as well as having the rest of the team in the know of whats coming, simply punting the ball in-goal and expecting the wings to run onto it isn't enough anymore. We need on-point bombs, chips etc. the kick and chase is slowly becoming outdated with the NRL having expectations on wingers doing crazy leaps and try savers etc.
Doesn't necessarily mean we have to conform to expectations or whatever, but wingers these days are built to be agile and flexible enough to perform these tasks and we lack that at the moment.
We score a lot of tries off passing, and a lot less off kicking especially bombs and the like.

Attack Vidot as much as possible he has some bad reads and his hands can let him down under the high ball

Really try and concentrate our running game at Rein and Soward ,Rein is a good defender , but he has hurt us in attack and wear him out and make Fein have to make lots of decisions with no time ,he has a lot of poor options

But we need to make smart decisions defensively ,the one thing I hate seeing when we play the Saints is forcing them to run the ball late in tackle counts , we seem to get destroyed when the Saints do this

Without Marshall we need some spark in the halves and either Miller ,Anasta or Sirro they have no speed and can't create anything in that way ,and with our backline looking like they are in action replay we probably have 2 options

Moltzen has to play 6 with Anasta at 7 or we take a big gamble and give Brooks a shot at 7 with Anasta at 6

It gives us some speed in the halves and still let Anasta and Farah have control without heaping pressure on either Moltz or Brooks

Added bonus if Brooks plays 7 is his combinations with Teddy which could become crucial in a tight game

Agreed Happy, but also added bonus of using Moltz is giving Teddy the best opportunity at fullback, otherwise you can guarantee Moltz will play 1 with Teddy on the wing. But would love nothing more than to see Brooks play firsts.
