The problem with Sue in the backrow

Tacky

New member
He can't tackle for 80 minutes. We need a consistent defensive backrower. This is Cheyse Blair's try, he just stands there and doesn't even attempt to block the gap. Does anyone else think this try is Sue's fault?

Or maybe they are too good for that ….

Is that Aaron Woods in the yellow boots….feet planted also along with Sauaso..

Watching it live I thought it was ETs fault not getting back to the line quick enough and of course Grant not putting in 100% to get his guy but clearly from that photo Sue is having a bludge there and should have been tighter to close the gap.

If you watch the video Sue is just standing there catching his breath and Blair just runs straight through where he should be standing.

Looks like grant and Taylor leaving the gap and yep next is sue and woods. But if Et and grant can't get him what chance are the the other two. He is hunched over though.

ET and Woods both committed to Finucane or whoever it was that was one pass off Blair, Grant rushes up thinking he has a line with him and instead shepherds Blair straight through the hole. Poor from Sue, poor from Grant, and bad read from ET but at least he tried to cover his mistake. I'd let Grant off if he got stepped or something but the bloke just stopped on his heels.

Sue is a prop. He does make some good hit-ups but that obstruction yesterday and his ability to wave the opposition player through a gap to me means he shouldn't be playing on the edge.

Sue is a prop I agree, the only thing I will let off is that he isn't an 80 minute backrower but yesterday he was made to play 80 minutes because we had too players off for the rest of the game. Remember Edwards only played 7 mionutes before being concussed and Brooks went off at the 5th minute so he would normally of had a rest so no he isn't an 80 minute backrower

you obviously played in the same era as me, cause thats what i was taught. but players these days are told to do just that as it gets them back quicker. seems ridiculous to me.

Exactly. Its determinned to be much more efdective, gaster and energy saving to run back into line. The old "dont turn your back" theory would result in evem more tries.

I'll never believe that - people don't have eyes in the back of your head.
Any player worth his salt would run straight past a bloke not looking at them.

How do u get onside running backwards wit hhow fast the game is now? Impossible

Not casting blame, but if Sue was actually in position there would not have been a gap as big as Sydney heads.

He is definitely not an edge forward (can't play 80 min), some of his reads are not good either.

Sue is a front row forward and a sometimes lock, that is about it imo.

That's how I saw it at the game, in review I'd say it's 50/50 Sue and Taylor.

Grant was beaten cold, but honestly most backs are going to beat a prop 1-1 with space. The idea is you present a line of forwards, not a lone defender.

Sue shouldn't be out there if he can't stand up in defence. Blair left-foot steps Grant into the hole between Grant and ET, but Melbourne can see Sue having a bludge there, hands on thighs, it encourages them to take a hitup back behind the ruck.

ET does not close the gap or join the line with Grant, he just props on the spot, never making lateral movement, and Blair runs straight into where he should have been. Woods also at this point backs off because ET is in front of him, then they both realise that Blair is through.

And then honestly Tedesco makes an absolute meal of the cover, Blair doesn't even put a move on or anything he just arcs to his right and Tedesco absolutely doesn't read it, barely makes contact in the dive.

He should not be playing, full stop!

Same problem last year. Turns his back on the play the ball, runs bad lines and very lazy in defence.

:bash

The same thing happened to Grant last week, Rapana ran past him like he was a lightpost in the exact same position and the result was the same

Definitely agree with that.
No issue with JAC skirting around him (or anyone), but Cheyse freaking Blair? Come on.
