ME Bank have dumped the Storm

Skins have dumped the Storm

Host Plus have announced a press conference.

Kooga is waiting for more details.

Only News Ltd & Harvey Norman are guaranteed standing firm

Ouch. Everyone is running for shelter from the storm lol.

In honesty though - its so much worse then a sponsor being dragged down by affiliation with a club at the bottom of the table. What they've committed is professional suicide. Everyones scampering not to go over the edge with them. Anyone that takes on future sponsorship with them, might a swell make a public statement declaring that they have no moral integrity as an organisation. I'm being controversial - but thats why my guess is that News Ltd, who started their franchise in the first place, is their last leg to stand on.

They're not the only ones either…

Suzuki set to Storm out

Japanese car manufacturer’s sponsorship of troubled NRL club the Melbourne Storm still yet to be decided.

Suzuki Australia today met to discuss the appropriate course of action following revelations of a salary cap rort by NRL ex-premiers, the Melbourne Storm, though no decision has been made as yet.

Suzuki is a premium sponsor of the Melbourne Storm and the car and motorbike manufacturer has their logo emblazoned on the sleeves of the Storm’s team jerseys.

Suzuki spokesman Andrew Ellis says the company’s decision on its sponsorship is likely to be made sooner rather than later.

“As you know, several key members of the Storm have been stood down so there’s an interim board in the process of being appointed,” says Mr Ellis. “And until we meet with that interim board there’s not much we can say.”

Speculation is rife surrounding the future of the club, and Suzuki’s decision could well be made for them if interim board decide the team should fold.

“Our plan is to meet with that interim board as soon as we can and learn their plans for the future, and we’ll make a decision then,” he says.

“We’re very disappointed with what happened.”

Suzuki has been a sponsor of the Storm since 2008, and Australian fullback Billy Slater is currently one of the poster boys for the company, starring in a television commercial for the Grand Vitara SUV.

Love the irony of one of Melbournes (now ex) sponsor, Skins….."Cheat Legal". With a slogan like that, they HAD to pull out.

I recall Humpreys saying that we were raking in the 3rd best sponsorship dollars in the league.

I guess we are number 2 now…

hmmmm

as much as i'd love the CC to be in the NRL and as much as i'm laughing at the storm at the moment, I'm also worried.

The NRL should really try and figure out how to keep the storm.
There is a new stadium there and you can't just dump australia's second biggest market.

and even if they are dumped, the NRL will eventually want to get back in.
it seems silly and short sighted to drop them out of the NRL.

A new board and a new team name would go a long way in fixing a lot of the marketing issues in regards to this.

agree totally a new team name would work wonders.

a cheeky person would find it ironic, if their current club emblem was a 'cheetah"
we will have to let it all unfold and see what happens.
can't blame a sponsor for withdrawing
I for one would be very angry/mad/dirty on a team if we were contributing a substantial amount of money to them, to find out this has happened, and be very reluctant to sponsor anyone at all in the futrure.

the storm need to stay. i envison in the future all states involved and the winner can be crowned world champions just as they do in the nfl and the baseball and basketball. We need to expand in other words. Its a pity all this, just bad news, hope melbourne doesnt fold.

The Storm should be de-rehistered and the Cronulla Sharks should move to Melbourne.

What would be the point of that? You may as well just get rid of Cronulla instead.

Plus the NRL needs 16 teams to fullfill their broadcasting contract of showing 8 games every weekend.

Sharks can have Victoria and keep the Shire as their Sydney (secondary) headquarters for the state cup side. Just like the Swans have a South melbourne Headquarters.

Itss a great idea and it would work.
