The writings of a desperate Wests tragic

Yes helmesy SFS do tip in money like ANZ did, however I read that the main reason WTs moved from ANZ to SFS was that the SCG Trust was willing to throw in more money that ANZ.

Interesting, I know its further from Campbelltown (but not necessarily harder to get too if using the M5 east) than ANZ but I am very glad we aren't playing at Homebush anymore.

great post Galah!

i've emailed 2sm with a similar sounding piece. if the nrl is to survive macarthur needs a full time team. this is becoming to big an area for 4 games a year.

mate i agree with you

this was my email sent june 7

My girlfriend has been following the wests tigers and rugby league for a couple of years now and slowly I've been teaching her some of the history of our great game. We watched the fibros and the silvertails DVD last night and it struck me, wests tigers do not represent my area. Wests tigers are an amazingly entertaining side to watch, but I don't feel the connection to the club the same way I did the magpies. I live on the same road as campbelltown stadium and I am getting sick of only having 4 games a year here, I'm sure balmain locals feel the same way.

Wests tigers are not the same club they were when they decided to move some games to, then Telstra stadium, Now SFS.

Secondly guys, while I am too young to have ever seen a first grade game at belmore I have seen some junior rep matches there. I sincerely hope with the extra tv money that comes clubs could one day develop stadiums in their local area like parramatta stadium.

Congratulations on the great show fellas, and thanks for reading out a lot of my emails.

Forever black and white

Thanks for the (mostly) positive response guys

All we want is a fair go, what is best for the future of Rugby League, a successful Wests Tigers and to ensure the two 1908 foundation clubs of the Magpies and Balmain live on.

Very interesting read for someone that wasnt aware of the "whole story".

I have a mate that's been involved with the Magpies Junior Reps. He was telling me that last season he spent four nights a week, plus game days working for the club, yet wasnt paid a cent by Western Suburbs. Apparently the players were provided minimal training gear. For game day, the Wests Tigers had to pay for dress shorts and rain jackets with both the Magpie and WT emblems embroided on them. Western Suburbs didnt pay anything towards the cost.

Now, this is all second hand info, so cant 100% guarantee the truth behind it, but I trust my mate and if Western Suburbs want a "fair go", as they deserve, then shouldnt they hold up their end of the JV bargain? Word is the WT have taken over the running of the Junior Reps now….Can anyone confirm this?

Swoop.. All Wests magpies diehards want is a fairer recognition within WT. In repsonse to your post, wests magpies are in a sticky situation being a ashfield funded club, based in liverpool looking after a campbelltown area junior league that wests leagues leumeah club indirectly funds via WT. On the other side of sydney, Balmain football club is broke with a shrinking junior base, no proper physical leagues club and are happy to be absorbed into WT as the tigers brand is kept well and truly alive. Like i said, the situation for wests magpies is complex and not ideal, but with co-operation from all parties involved (WT, wests leagues ashfield/ctown and whatever is left of balmain fc) 'we' can improve the way the magpies brand is portrayed within WT as sensibly and fairly mentioned within galahs post. Even a larger year 2000 size magpie on the sleeve would personally make me feel less like a old steelers fan looking for recognition in the dragons.

I think that there shouldn't be a better portrayal of the 'Magpie' brand in WT, because the 'Magpie' brand is, for lack of a better term, irrelevant to the forward movement of WT. (Don't take this the wrong way) The brand that needs to be promoted more is the Wests brand, these are different things. This would include a better presence in Campbelltown, more use of former Wests greats in promotional material and media and the streamlining of the Wests football club to the WT, which in my opinion is part of the problem of the massive gap in distinction between the two groups.

The Wests Tigers did run the Magpie junior rep teams this year and they along with Wests Ashfield provided the funding for them.
Wests Tigers are the ones who make money from sponsors and corporate partners, you don't get big money sponsors of junior rep sides, so just like every other NRL club they should have to fund a large proportion of the juniors as they are the ones who will benefit from them.

Speaking of gaining funds, does anyone know whether the Magpies merchandise tent will be set up on Monday night at the game?

Wests Magpies merchandise hasnt been at the Wests Magpies games either.

Galahs, your post was an absolute pleasure to read. It was very well written. A lot of thought and heart went in to it. You are a truly passionate and loyal supporter. I hope the right people read your post and take action.

Gary Bakerloo, great comeback comments. I hate it when people make statements or comments without any basis or credible source and then claim that they have the facts. Some people are unbelievable at claiming to state facts, when they have absolutely no real facts themselves. :crazy
