Thurston better than Johns?

Let's see how he finishes his career. Only two years ago, Billy Slater was talked up as a future immortal. Now, it seems he's fallen off the face of the earth. In fact, the whole aura of the Melbourne big 3/4 is gone.

It's all about consistency and longevity. If Thurston finishes his career no good, he'll go down as a very very good NRL player.

For any cricket fans, think of Tendulkar. His reputation was tarnished by the last few years of his career, clearly hanging on for whatever reason. Those last 2-3 years are huge. Finishing on a low makes it tough for people to remember the good times.

I personally don't see Thurston going on too long if he gets the premiership this weekend

And all the talk about players is hard

Trying to compare say Lewis , Sterling and Kenny with JT and Johns is impossible

Sterling and Lewis were the smartest players I ever saw on a football field

Lewis didn't play NRL until late in his career and it would of been great to see Lewis move to the NSWRL around 83-84 to see how he went playing in the grind of the NSWRL and then playing SOO

He could obviously save himself as many of the BRL teams weren't NSWRL standards , however 3 probably were Wynnum ,Souths and Redcliffe

But when he played SOO he was better than anyone else at that level

Sterling was never the biggest , fastest , best defender but had great footwork and was just miles ahead of everyone on the field with how he saw things unfolding like Lewis and had silky skills

Kenny was an athlete and could of played anywhere from 1-7 he had the silky skills , glided across the ground , my old man compared him to Gasnier when he ran the ball

Fittler in my opinion gets left out of the argument too often and was far closer to Johns than many think , if not on the same level

Lockyer the same when comparing to Thurston and Johns , the Qld SOO forward packs he played with were below par and he kept Qld in many games with his ability alone

So the 80's guys I would rank Lewis 1st ,Sterling 2nd just ahead of Kenny

With the current crop JT wins ahead of Johns and Fittler with Locky 4th
