Thurston's possible suspension a joke

I still can't believe that they are going to charge Thuston and he could possibly miss a match deciding origin game over that . My opinion is that referees have as much responsiblity on the field for there actions and their whereabouts as the players do . Whats happens if Thurston does his ACL or shoulder when tripped up by the referee . The referee was in the wrong place at the wrong time . Leave it at that . Lets put it this way , if this goes any further we know the true reasons why ….

Agreed. This is just ridiculous.

This has the stench of Goulds grubby fingers all over it.

It was an accidental collision. If we want to witness what promisses to be a fantastic decider, than this sort of crap should be laid to rest tonight.

I agree but not so much because of the charge, rather that they've set a precedent for letting big name players off (Hayne, et al..) before important games.
It would be hypocritical to suddenly try and be seen as fair to all players in all circumstances.

I think Checchin has been knocked down 3 times in the last 12 months… Maybe he is the problem or the 2 referee situation is the reason, but the sport is about the players competing for a ball or ball runner at all costs.

Isnt that what the NRL want with every other aspect of the game???

Thurston Should be suspended.

It was 100% Deliberate - He could have pulled out of that angle.

I'm no expert on the ideal positioning for an RL referee, but one would have thought that the ref was guilty of bad positioning, given he found himself between an attacker and a defender in pursuit. I assume he was more concerned about staying close to the ball carrier?

Rugby refs will end up making contact with players (defenders usually) two to three times per match. Inevitably they apologise for being where they shouldn't

That's crazy talk Spartan . Why would he risk injury tackling the ref on purpose . NSW supporters all the same . One eyed , don't call the game as they see it

I haven't seen it apart from a photo, but video evidence would lead me to say guilty or not guilty. Was he watching the ball runner? Did he have eyes for the ref only?

If it was accidental, (I.E looking different direction) then no charge, free to play.
If he was looking at the ref, guilty.

The other thing that would give it away, did he hesitate at the last second, this would indicate he hadn't seen the ref and when he did spot him too late he tried to stop.
In my sport, you hit an official, guaranteed ban of at least 4 weeks. You hit them with intent, almost certain to be looking at a lifetime ban, never to play again.

Not sure that it is all crazy talk… From looking at the video he runs about 5 metres before running into the ref. Surely in that distance he can see the bloke in pink and avoid him. It is not like the ref was wearing a similar colour.

I don't agree that it is worthy of 2 weeks on the sideline, but if that is the rule then i guess it must be enforced.

Its a QLD conspiracy blaming a NSW conspiracy.

You dont touch refs.

Thurston must be suspended and NSW must win Game 3.

Its because of this scenario that it 'is' a conspiracy…

Carney - No Charge/Suspension
Zillman - No Charge/Suspension
Thaiday - No Charge/Suspension

What about when Checcin touched Corey Parker a month ago... Did he get any Charges or Suspension???

McCullum must stand down immediately!!!

To be honest, when watching the game I thought that Thurston could have easily avoided the collision. As a matter of fact, to me it looked like Thurston pushed the ref with force, rather than 'running into' him.

He won't be suspended though.

x 2\. He hit the ref like Lewis hit Cronk (?) in origin, no accident, but he'll get off.

would not be suprised if it gets down graded and he only gets a one game ban.

so then it appears there is no favourtism, it covers all areas.

he gets penalised for his actions, and he would be eligible to play for qld.

The ref also moves in one direction then turns with his back to and in front of Thurston in another for a couple of stapes, Thurston imo wouldnt and couldnt know this.
