You do realise that most of the crap you are talking about comes from this and other forums. Love it how people create their own reality about possible signings and bang on for eternity about poor recruitment/retention by the club.

I will however get in early on this one… Mayer should be sacked if he doesn't sign this Valentine fella.

Yes, let's sack the CEO because he doesn't sign this bloke or that fella. Why not? There must be a dozen suitable replacements for the CEO of a football club. And then we can sack them when they don't sign every decent footballer who comes on to the market as well. Brilliant.

Sarcasm button faulty.

Sorry OG - I missed it. My head hurts from reading all the nonsense that's been flying around about JT and Mayer and who ever else can be blamed.

I hope he signs him before Valentine's Day next year.

The good thing about signing a young bloke like Holmes or Gutherson would be that you could sign them to a 3 or 4 year contract on reasonably cheap money compared to obviously what a Tedesco or Milford demand.

I must admit Valentine Holmes looks the goods, good size and speed for a young fella. Be interesting to see if anything eventuates over the coming weeks seeing that we now have an answer from Tedesco!

In Mayer's Q&A he did say now the Tedesco situation has finalised that we are looking at making a signing or two for 2014.

The Sharks won't let Holmes go after they won a bidding war with NQ. They have been patient with him by allowing him to return home on short stints as he was homesick.

Haven't heard of Holmes so I can't comment there. But I do know Gutherson is managed by Ayoub so expect him to test the market.

Maybe I'm just still annoyed with the whole Tedesco fiasco, but seriously is it worth starting all over again with another young gun fullback with potential? Who could possibly play a few good games, contract comes to a finish, due for a pay rise, doesn't get the bank thrown at them, gets a better offer, moves on, start again!!!

It's really hard, until the NRL introduces some sort of discount for clubs who bring through their juniors the club is basically banking on loyalty. I understand young blokes being thrown the big bucks and moving on (most people would), but it's a hard way to balance the books. Why pay for years of development for others to reap the benefits, as you can't fit them all in the cap as their potential begins to show? Is it easier to just sign players from everyone else and save the clubs pennies in development costs?

Mayer was right with his comments today and something needs to be done in the near future so clubs who develop youth have the best opportunity to retain their rising stars and not have them signed off to the highest bidders everytime.
