When the Wests Tigers begin their hunt for the 2012 Premiership at Leichhardt Oval against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, you the fans will start a campaign of your own when the 2012 Toyota NRL Dream Team competition starts in round 1.
The official NRL Dream Team scoring system has had a makeover with attacking statistics now a true factor in the game. This change was necessary given the significant advantage defensive players held in the Dream Team format for years. Wests Tigers have superb Dream Team talent across the park – from an experienced forward pack featuring Robbie Farah, Gareth Ellis and Chris Heighington, through to backs like Chris Lawrence and star five-eighth Benji Marshall.
So Wests Tigers fans, as your team takes up their next challenge, who will you select from your Wests Tigers to help you dominate the new look Official NRL Dream Team competition in 2012?
Here are three official NRL Dream Team Stars and one wildcard from the Wests Tigers roster to consider.
PROVEN PERFORMERS:
Robbie Farah
HOK, $323,100, 2011 Adjusted DT Average: 54.54
Farah should be close to the top of every Dream Team coach’s wish list because of the value he offers from hooker. Played nearly every minute of every game last year, despite a battling injury, and is a player coaches can rely on. Made 35 tackles per game and does a lot of general play kicking from dummy half. Farah’s also going to boost his score with his playmaking ability and the odd field goal.
Benji Marshall
HLF, $300,300, 2011 Adjusted DT Average: 50.70
A superstar of the game already, it’s finally time for Marshall to become a Dream Team superstar. It’s no secret that he is at the heart of the Tigers’ attacking style, and will (for the first time) be properly rewarded. Halves will play a bigger role in Dream Team this year, so there’s definitely a compelling case for including Marshall’s brilliance in your squad.
Gareth Ellis
2RF, $236,900, 2011 Adjusted DT Average: 40.00
An 80 minute player and one of the finest English imports the game has seen. Ellis hit his stride towards the back end of the season, and showed he is more than capable of 35+ tackles per week. But he’s no one dimensional player and could be a unique option in the second row with his ability to offload and create.
WILDCARD SELECTION
Blake Ayshford, CTR, $192,500, 2011 Adjusted DT Average: 32.50
The Dream Team changes just don’t include a new system for points – but now coaches will have to select specialist centres. Ayshford registered 11 tries, 13 line breaks, 27 offloads and 77 tackle breaks last season and could do even better in 2012\. Worth the gamble.
In 2012, you will be able to compete against fellow Wests Tigers fans in a club league, with the highest overall point scorer rewarded with a supporter prize pack and two 2013 general admission club memberships.
