Brooks has no hope of getting in front of Cleary , Cleary has the complete game and can kick goals .

It's generally not safe to make those kinds of calls on players when they haven't even played a full season of first grade. We'll see how Cleary handles this season with a weight of expectations on him and another young half in Te Maire Martin next to him. He does seem to have a lot of composure for such a young player so he might kick on, or he might go the way of Tim Smith…

Theres no doubt that NSW have some talented youngsters in the wings.
Once they fully emerge, cue Phil Gould to swoop in and steal the glory.

Oh you mean like what the bushy-eyed git did with the 'toads?
Basically, anyone apart from Laurie Daley will be "swooping in to take the glory". Maybe even our own JT if WT finally live up to the hype/potential and start to have success.

Its absolutely not the same thing and if you understood what i said or even had any knowledge of what you are talking about youd agree.

Mal took on QLD after they had lost 3 series consecutively. He didnt walk into an established winning squad. NSW needed someone like Gould for over a decade but he refused to help because his precious record would be tarnished. He prefers to make outlandishly arrogant predictions of success only to turn on the boys when they come up short. Im saying however that the legends are closing their careers soon and with so much NSW talent coming through, dont be surprised to see his SOO coaching aspirations envirorated. The bloke is a fraud.

Why bother with FTB ??

We are Qlders , we are the Anti Christ , he'd be checking our heads for 666 for proof if he ever meet us

Mal might not be a supercoach but he is obviously a great mentor, motivator and man-manager which are vital traits when in charge of a rep side, especially ones as talented as the QLD and Kangaroos squads.

He had a lot to do with the success.

Totally agree Stryker,I'm not a Qld fan being true blue NSW born and bred, however I give credit where its due and in my opinion Mal has done a magnificent job with the toads, even though people speak of the abundance of talent he had to work with,he still had to construct game plans, structures etc and to hone a team that good to be CONSISTENT every series is a credit to his coaching ability…
As for Gould,he does have coaching ability above average,I think with age he will pick his moment to take on a job again,a job where everything will be in his favour......

I'm not one to out the boot into Sheens, but how much more of a TEAM do Australia look under Mal. I'd honestly take any current NRL coach over him for a club job, but he is a great rep coach.

Seeing as you've got 2 heads I'd be checking for the number 1332.

I don't get the criticism of Brooks.
Played injured latter part of 2016 and yet still had stats comparable to other quality NRL halves. Would like to see him take on the line more.

His try assist/line break assist stats look great, and that's why I still have faith he can be a great player for us. BUT, he goes missing in games. Maybe that is because Moses has become the dominant half, but he still needs to be in a game for 80 minutes.

It is good to see the NSWRL having camps for halfs/hookers. As a Queenslander, I support this iniative, and encourage the QRL to do the same.

I have said it many times, look at his stats for 2017, they were right up there. Okay he had issues in defence but he had a lot of traffic directed at him and he did not get a lot of help. Moses has the keys to the team, so it is unfair to expect the same from Brooks. I would be very surprised if Brooks doesn't have a great year in 2017

I'm no great fan of Gould but I'm not sure he should be classed as a "fraud" in regards to his coaching TBH. He has won 2 premierships coaching different clubs and 4 or so SOO series as well. Not a bad effort.

Plenty of coaches can be classified as frauds in that they have had success with superstar teams but had failures with anything but a top-notch roster. Mal and Unca Wayne being 2 cases in point. Maybe Sheens should be classed in the super coach category for what he did with a team of nobodies and youngsters in '05, our team that year was given absolutely zero chance of a premiership- no team that has won the title since has been in that same position at the start of the year. All hail the Sheensdawg! :master:

And Bellamy when he coached NSW, and stacked it with his Storm players. Worst rep coach Yet, but brilliant club coach even though a cheat with cheating players

It won't happen, but I'd still like to see him in a few games with a different 6.
He's become hopeless when paired with Moses
His best games have been with a different 6
Maybe Moses is taking over too much.

Moses had to take over the bulk. Brooks was going missing. This is the problem.
If Brooks doesn't start to command the pill and be vocal on the field how can it change?
Some people don't have that personality. Plain and simple.

I think a lot of us see how much better we look when Moses controls the side

As a few have mentioned Brooks goes missing far too often, Moses might have some bad games but he doesn't know how to give up

And I agree he needs to take the line on more often , but until he constantly does it at full tilt like he did v the Knights it is a wasted tackle unless Moses follows it up after a quick play the ball

Good point. One of the most underestimated and under used plays is one half taking the line on at speed followed by the other half doing the same thing next tackle. Very effective when done right, and we have the perfect halves to utilize this play with there speed and footwork.

Brooks had a solid season without being outstanding. The games where we got hammered and he was ineffective is when the forwards were dominated.
When the forwards held their own he played very well.
No halfback looks good when the opposition is being dominated. - ie JT at Leichardt this year - shocker of game.
