Tigers set to say no to Mason

The Wests Tigers are expected to announce on Thursday that their brief pursuit of former NRL forward Willie Mason has ended.

The Tigers were believed to be keen on the former Test back-rower to boost their thin front-row rotation - which has been hit heavily by a toe injury to NSW representative Keith Galloway.

That followed the departure of front-row specialists Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita to Cronulla in the off-season, leaving inexperienced duo Aaron Woods and Matt Groat to carry the load this season.

Back-to-back losses to Manly and St George Illawarra, in which the Tigers were outmuscled up front on both occasions, looked to have fast-tracked the deal, but the club went cold on the 31-year-old.

"I can't (give an update on Mason), Stephen Humphreys will make a statement about it (on Thursday)," Sheens said on Thursday morning.

"I think we're leaving it in his hands to do that."

Sheens confirmed that Mason had been courted by the Tigers to improve his forward pack, especially while Galloway remains sidelined for up to another month.

"We've made an enquiry about a number of players just to improve our front-row stock at this stage of the season," he said.

Lock Chris Heighington said Mason would be a good signing for any club, but that the Tigers were well represented in the forwards regardless of any future signings.

"It's up to club management (what happens with Mason), but in saying that we've two really good props in Woods and Groat coming through who are going to be really talented players," Heighington said.

"That's up to the club but in saying that he'd be a really good signing.

"He's a good player and he's done it at the top level."

Looks like Mason is out but I wonder who else management is talking to, "We've made an enquiry about a number of players just to improve our front-row stock at this stage of the season," he said.

You have to admit this whole saga has been played out really poorly.
After the fiasco with Moltzen , the unhappy departures of Gibbs and Fifita ,Brown (suddenly) and talk last year that Heighington , Fulton and Ryan were also told to look around we look like we haven't got a clue who we do or don't want.
Maybe Bug has been right all along. 😱pen_mouth:

Is Rose available at the moment though?

I heard a rumour a few days ago through a friend we were interested in rose, as he is currently playing nsw cup due to a lazy off season, but thats all I've heard at the moment.

Mate you are reacting to ill-informed media reports.

Then our media manager needs a serious rocket because it's his job to stop us from looking like a rabble of amateur hour muppets in the press

edit - and on George Rose he was playing in the reserves game shown on Fox this week. I only saw bits of it but he was the size of a house and about as mobile as one too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it has been the PAPERS saying stuff like "the Daliy Telegraph believes…." and "we understand that.....", but they have been unable to quote any one from either party, even an unnamed source.

Suddenly everyone gets all presumptuous about WT intentions from hearsay that the papers publish.

WT don't have to report anything if nothing has happened. They don't have to deny every rumour that is published too, otherwise they would be posting media releases every 5 minutes.

In saying that, that's not to say that they can't come out with a statement, but who knows where they stand at the moment as maybe they can't say anything yet.

All I'm arguing is that it is grossly unfair to label this saga as "a shambles" as you/we really don't know the facts.

My understanding is that a decision was made several days ago anyway, and that it was a simple two letter word.

Come on Kul , it's being played out on every media outlet with a "we're not sure" , "take the fans into consideration" and Sheens even dodging the bullet by passing the buck to Humphries to make some sort of announcement.
If it looks like a shambles and talks like a shambles…. it's a shambles.
If they did make a solid decision days ago why not just come out and say so? (and my info is they didn't)
