Tigers sign Another English Backrower...Mark Flanagan

Worst case he works closely with Ellis and learns everything he can from him in the first year and makes an impact year two.

Best case he is a gun off the bat and rips teams a new one

SIX players from Celtic Crusaders are to be kicked out of the UK as immigration offenders.

The group – all Australian – admitted lying in their visa application to enter and stay in the country following a Government investigation.

Skipper Jace van Dijk, full-back Tony Duggan, half-back Damien Quinn, centres Josh Hannay and Mark Dalle Court and second-row Darren Mapp all pleaded guilty.

It is understood they hid their intention to play professional and semi-pro sport when applying for holiday and student visas.

All six have been banned from playing again for the club this season and have until September 7 to exit the UK – with no chance of returning for 10 years.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said: “Six Australian nationals have been served with papers confirming that they are illegally present in the UK.

“We now expect these individuals to leave the country. If they refuse to do so voluntarily, we will enforce their removal.”

Government officials are also looking into any involvement the Crusaders may have had.

WAKEFIELD have cleared the way for England’s Ryan Atkins to move to Warrington next season after recruiting Canterbury Bulldogs centre Daryl Millard to replace him.

Atkins is expected to be joined at the Halliwell Jones Stadium by Salford’s England scrum-half Richard Myler and a front-row signing – possibly Celtic Crusaders’ Mark Bryant.

**Wigan stand-off Mark Flanagan is heading to Wests Tigers, who are also set to sign England forward Sam Burgess from Bradford for 2010.**

UPDATE ON PLAYER SIGNINGS
Wednesday, August 19, 2009
Wests Tigers wish to clarify news on player signings for 2010.

An article in this week’s Rugby League Week claims Wests Tigers have signed one of the best young back-rowers in England in Wigan forward Mark Flanagan.

The article states Flanagan has signed a two-year deal. The 21-year-old can also play half, five-eighth and hooker.

Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell said the article was not correct.

“Mark has not signed with Wests Tigers. We have spoken to Mark and his management and have sent him a contract to look at.’’ McDonnell said.

“Should Mark sign the contract, we will announce it once we receive it. At this stage, it is just speculation.’’

McDonnell also pointed out winger Tame Tupou and former forward Liam Fulton had not been signed by Wests Tigers despite being listed in an article on each club’s gains and losses for next year.

A very interesting last sentence there.

holey moley! I didn't think we could get Burgess until 2011????

I feel like Friday is going to be a good day. Signings of Flanagan and Sam Burgess; and a 10 point victory over the Eels.

Mark joined the Warriors in January 2007 from the Bradford Bulls and is still awaiting his first team debut. Spent the last couple of months of last season on loan at National League Club Halifax where he impressed gaining important first team experience.

Figured in the Reserve side in 2008 but was unfortunate again with injury.

Flanagan is an England Academy international and was selected in the matches against the Australian Schoolboys at the end of 2006.

Mark is also a useful goal kicker and signed for the Bulls from amateur club Saddleworth Rangers as a 16 year old. His father Terry played for Oldham and won four Great Britain caps between 1983 and 1984.

I'm thinking Ellis MUST'VE given Sheens the tip on this one, because Flanagan has barely played any first grade over there.

And I guess this will shutup those know-it-alls claiming Boz is 100%, guaranteed coming back next year.

At least this article got our club to give us members & fans , a hint on part of the Gameplan…...even though the info was practically forced out of them

So Tupo was only signed for this year with an option for next year depending on his injuries??
At least the club is giving us information on what is correct in regards to signings.

Just wish they come out and confirm they have signed Sam Burgess hahahaha…i would be a very happy man knowing that Sheens has kept his promise of 1 Quality buy each year.

Tupou is running with no cartillage in his knees. Not looking good for him at the moment.

Fulton has to weigh up his options and is not 100% guaranteed as it stands pending an extension in the U.K.

As for Flanagan…anyone named Flanno is ALWAYS welcome at Wests!!

Although i did hear WT were still in the hunt for Ma'a Nonu only recently.

Holy $%&*.

This would be a major coup, I really can't see it happening?

Burgess has a get out clause in his contract, so if they can 'trade' another player for him he can leave and be at at another club in 2010 or country. So if we swap Fulton for Burgess ?

we wil all be very happy, if it does eventuate.
but we have seen before, when wests-tigers show interest in some-one, they get a better offer from somewhere else, or just say no.

Seems like the WT are upset they got beaten to the press.

I'm not convinced about the reliability of the source saying burgess is set to sign.
They could just be going of the news we are chasing him?
But it would be awesome if it was true. fingers crossed.
