Tigers tighten up in betting
By Christian Nicolussi From: The Daily Telegraph August 17, 2010 12:00AM

THE nation's biggest bookie is bracing for a $1 million-plus stripout after the popular Wests Tigers firmed to their shortest NRL premiership price yesterday.

Less than 24 hours after their 43-18 thumping of the Panthers, the Tigers firmed from $15 into $9 with TAB Sportsbet for the NRL title.

And an avalanche of cash is expected to follow in the coming month should the exciting joint-venture club continue their charge to the first weekend in October.

Tough back-rower Chris Heighington warned fans last night the Tigers still had plenty of improvement in them and were yet to string together an entire 80 minutes of football.

"I think the best thing about the weekend against Penrith was the fact it was the first time we put away a team," Heighington said.

"We've still got plenty of room for improvement. If we want to do anything in this final series we have to hit form and that means trying to do it again on Sunday against Parramatta.

"I still think the Dragons are the team to beat. We played them on a Friday night about six weeks ago and they make opposition teams shoot themselves in the foot."

TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie said the Dragons remained $3 favourites prior to last night's crunch game with the Sea Eagles, but the Tigers had once again proven the "punters' darlings".

"The Tigers have a wide supporter base, and they're just one of those sides who are popular with everybody," Munsie said.

"They've got popular players like Lote Tuqiri, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah, and that was the most impressive the side has been [on Sunday] in weeks.

The Tigers, who opened at the start of the season at $17, were $15 before the Campbelltown carve-up, and then yesterday listed at $9, on the third line of betting.

Insane drop. Not taking anything away from the Tigers, the Panthers were pretty woeful.
Tigers real test is this weekend. If the Tigers win, then they do deserve to be top 4 favorites at this point in time.
I'm tempted to put a bet on but I fear I might put the wood on them >_<

I'll be far more confident coming into the finals with a win over the Eels this weekend. When I say win though, I mean complete and utter annihilation .

We were fairly good for about 65-70 minutes against the Panthers, would like to see an 80 minute performance against the Eels

Should of been under $10 for the last 2 months…

We have only lost 3 of our last 12 games... Thats up there with St George!!!

Not a dig at you NZ but i get really sick and tired of everytime we beat a team it's because they are woeful or not at their best. The Telecrap yesterday just focused on how below par they were and no credit is given to the Tigers for the possibilty that it was us who made them look woeful.

By definition and at about the 99% of the time the team that loses must be worse on the day than the winning side, otherwise they would win. Ok there are exceptions, the Sharks game is one example of the better team losing but thats not very often.

Other than Laclhan Coote the Panthers had the same team who beat us earlier in the year, were they better than us then or were we woeful? Manly played us off the park but did they do this because we had an off day or were they just better? :brick:

Rant over

:sign:

Penriff weren't all that bad. It was anyone's game for 60 minutes. A couple of silly penalties gave us a lot of possession at the right time of the game, we scored a couple of tries and Penriff dropped their heads.

Their pigs gave us hell up the middle and the guys did an awesome job to contain them. Brown and Ryan were great under the high ball and that destroyed most of Penriff's attacking opportunities.

I think everyone is starting to buy into the media a little too much when they credit a Tigers win to the opposition playing poorly, it seems to be the default explanation. The Pamfers competed and we walked away with a resounding win.

Long way to go yet but the good thing is most teams are struggling at present and Sheens like cup king Bart knows how to prepare a team for the last few weeks of the year. I just dont know if we have the fire power up front

We do with missile backrowers in Ellis and Fulton….I just hope they can keep it going for the next 2 months.....
